OKX has announced a strategic partnership with Ondo Finance, a prominent blockchain-based Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenization platform that connects traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi). According to the company's announcement, this collaboration is designed to expand tokenized US-listed stocks to OKX's CeDeFi customers in eligible jurisdictions. The partnership provides direct on-chain exposure to hundreds of tokenized stocks, such as Apple, NVIDIA, and Tesla, from the same account customers use to trade crypto. This integration significantly reduces the need for customers to manage isolated wallets, seed phrases, or connect funds between networks, marking a major expansion of OKX's service offerings beyond traditional cryptocurrency trading.
OKX is preparing to offer perpetual futures tied to private companies, including OpenAI, SpaceX, and Anthropic, intensifying a growing race among crypto firms to bring pre-IPO speculation markets on-chain. According to the company's Wednesday blog post, these contracts will provide synthetic price exposure to private companies ahead of their anticipated public listings, without granting actual equity ownership or shareholder rights. The move represents a significant expansion of crypto exchanges into equity and real-world asset markets beyond traditional bitcoin and ether trading. As per the latest announcement, OKX will soon list contracts that offer customers exposure to tokenized contracts for pre-IPO companies like Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceX.
Beyond the pre-IPO contracts, OKX has unveiled five new equity perpetuals for eligible customers, including the iShares MSCI USA Quality Factor ETF (USAR), Costco (COST), Eli Lilly (LLY/USDT), Hims & Hers Health (HIMS), and Benitec Biopharma (BMNR). This equity perpetuals lineup represents a significant diversification from OKX's traditional focus on cryptocurrency trading. The company has been serving as a crypto exchange for over a decade and now includes tokenized markets across many asset classes, moving beyond being confined to exchange status for crypto tokens like Bitcoin ($BTC) and Ethereum ($ETH).
The trend reflects a broader push by crypto platforms to bring pre-IPO and private equity-style speculation on-chain. Bitget entered the sector in April with 'IPO Prime,' listing a Solana-based SpaceX-linked token issued through investment platform Republic. Last year, Injective rolled out pre-IPO perpetual futures tied to firms including OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX, and Perplexity, describing the products as a way to bring the $13 trillion private equity market 'directly on-chain'. The move comes as exchanges expand beyond traditional cryptocurrency trading into equities and real-world asset markets, with OKX's partnership with Ondo Finance representing a significant step in this direction.
The trend also reflects how crypto exchanges are increasingly moving beyond bitcoin and ether into equities and real-world asset markets. Robinhood tried a similar approach last year, offering OpenAI-linked tokens backed by a special purpose vehicle that held equity purchased on the secondary market, rather than direct equity ownership. However, OpenAI publicly distanced itself from the product at the time, warning that any transfer of actual company equity would require its approval. This development highlights the growing intersection between traditional financial markets and cryptocurrency trading platforms, though it remains unclear whether these products will confer actual shareholder rights or remain purely speculative instruments. The partnership with Ondo Finance further expands this trend by providing direct on-chain access to traditional equities through tokenization.
