OKX has launched the beta version of OKX AI, an onchain marketplace designed for autonomous AI agents to find work, complete tasks, and receive payments without relying on centralized intermediaries. According to the company's announcement, the platform combines agent discovery, identity, escrow payments, reputation tracking, and decentralized dispute resolution into a single ecosystem. The marketplace consists of two connected components: the Agent Marketplace where developers can list AI agents and define their services, and the Task Marketplace where agents can search for available work, complete assignments, and automatically receive payment upon task completion. As reported by Cointelegraph, the platform will remain in beta until consistent, repeat usage patterns emerge among users, with trading, onchain activity and research tasks expected to become the primary early categories. The marketplace opened to developers on Tuesday following a closed beta involving 50 early AI service providers, marking a significant step toward commercial availability.
The platform handles payments through escrow-backed smart contracts or instant pay-per-call transactions, with agents receiving compensation in either USDT or USDG depending on the payment arrangement. As reported by OKX, every completed transaction contributes to a shared onchain identity, allowing an agent's reputation to grow across different applications rather than remaining tied to a single platform. Disputes are resolved through a decentralized network of evaluators rather than a centralized operator, with outcomes becoming part of the platform's trust system. The platform supports widely used AI development tools including Claude Code, Codex, Hermes, and OpenClaw. Among the early launch partners, CertiK provides AI agents with wallet security assessment capabilities before transactions, CoinAnk offers live market data on a pay-per-query basis, and GenLayer contributes dispute-resolution infrastructure. According to a spokesperson for OKX, the onchain reputation system will prevent agents from hiring other malicious agents, especially as more transaction history accumulates, with the platform working on additional defense layers including sophisticated dispute resolution and anomaly detection systems.
The AI marketplace launch comes as agentic AI is expected to drive a 24-fold increase in token consumption by 2030 as consumers and enterprises adopt the technology, according to Goldman Sachs Research. OKX is the latest cryptocurrency platform to venture into AI infrastructure, following similar initiatives from Coinbase, MetaMask, and Nansen. Agentic payment activity on Coinbase's Base network topped 100 million transactions on June 3, signaling that machine-to-machine payments have moved beyond the proof-of-concept stage. The x402 protocol allows software agents to make onchain payments directly through web requests, demonstrating the growing adoption of autonomous AI payment systems. With more than 150 million users worldwide, OKX expects the next generation of clients will be not only people or institutions but also AI agents capable of autonomous transactions. Haider Rafique, OKX's chief marketing officer and global managing partner, told TechCrunch that the company believes "agentic commerce" could become a trillion-dollar market over the next five years, driven by micropayments and autonomous software. The platform allows AI agents to settle transactions around the clock, including low-value micropayments that would be impractical using conventional payment rails.
The AI marketplace has attracted significant industry support with launch partners including AWS, AltLayer, CertiK, the Ethereum Foundation, the Solana Foundation, Opentensor Foundation, and StraitsX, along with several other ecosystem participants. Among the first partners are CertiK, which lets AI agents assess wallet security before transactions, CoinAnk with live market data for on-demand payments, and GenLayer, which provides infrastructure for dispute resolution. According to OKX, the platform is designed to work with widely used AI development tools and supports the growing autonomous software agent ecosystem. Albert Castellana, co-founder and CEO of GenLayer Labs, told TechCrunch that the biggest challenge is not simply enabling AI agents to transact, but helping them discover one another and resolve disputes when things go wrong, describing their work as "essentially a digital court system." The spokesperson explained that "OKX is economic infrastructure for agentic commerce. Nobody is combining identity, reputation, payments, and a skills marketplace into one platform." The onchain reputation and escrow system is built to create trust in AI agents by tracking their work history, with agents having no track record or history of failed work being less likely to get hired by other agents.
OKX AI is positioning itself for phased global rollout with regulatory requirements and developer needs in mind, with expansion into new markets planned. The platform targets cryptoverse developers who build AI applications and independent entrepreneurs who want to automate parts of their business with AI agents. ICE has invested in OKX, with the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange investing approximately $200 million in March at a $25 billion valuation. According to Rafique, the partnership is part of the company's ambition to "modernize markets" through tokenization, while OKX AI represents its parallel effort to "modernize money" for an era of autonomous software. Developers will gain access to the marketplace via Onchain OS – a set of OKX tools for connecting AI agents with blockchain-based services. A particular focus is given to India, which plays a significant role as one of the world's largest hubs for AI and blockchain developers. In 2024, OKX paused services in India due to regulatory requirements, but executives say India remains a priority with OKX AI developer products facing fewer regulatory barriers than spot trading. Star Xu, founder and CEO of OKX, told TechCrunch that "The coming decade will be defined by one-person companies that generate over a million dollars in annual revenue — because every individual effectively gains an unlimited workforce."
