KuCoin has launched KCUSD, a new yield-bearing USD asset that allows users to earn passive income on stablecoin deposits. According to reports from KuCoin, the product offers a standard APR of up to 4% with promotional rates reaching up to 6% APR for eligible participants. Users can deposit USDT, USDC, or USDG and receive KCUSD at a 1:1 ratio, with no fixed lockup period required. The balance earns daily returns with rewards automatically compounded, and users can request redemption back into the original stablecoin they deposited.
The most compelling feature of KCUSD is its integration with KuCoin's Unified Trading Account (UTA). As reported by KuCoin, eligible VIP users can use KCUSD as trading collateral while the balance continues earning its base yield. This dual functionality allows the same capital to perform two jobs simultaneously, addressing the trade-off that active traders face when moving stablecoin balances into yield products. The 4% base rate places KCUSD toward the stronger end of flexible exchange-based yield products currently available.
At the 6% promotional rate, a $10,000 investment would generate approximately $600 over a year before considering compounding effects. According to KuCoin, the product is designed for simplicity with no fixed lockup period and automatic reward compounding. Users can enter through several major stablecoins and redeem back into the same asset, removing multiple steps for users who already maintain stablecoin balances on the platform.
KuCoin Nigeria Limited has secured conditional Approval-in-Principle from Nigeria's Securities and Exchange Commission to join its Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme. As reported by BigGo Finance, the approval positions the local subsidiary for formal review in Africa's largest economy, which ranks among the world's most active markets for digital asset adoption. However, the approval remains explicitly preliminary and bars KuCoin Nigeria from onboarding customers, listing tokens, processing fiat transactions, or offering public-facing services until all pre-commencement conditions are met.
KCUSD is designed primarily for users who intend to keep funds on KuCoin, as reported by KuCoin. Users who want to move capital to personal wallets, other exchanges, or DeFi applications must first redeem KCUSD into supported stablecoins, subject to applicable redemption and withdrawal rules. Margin support in UTA is currently available to eligible users at VIP1 and above, with KuCoin describing a phased rollout approach. The product's appeal is limited for users who prefer self-custody, frequently move money between platforms, or seek onchain yield opportunities.
