
According to a press release shared with crypto.news, io.net has launched a new token burn mechanism that burns IO tokens using network revenue, with the model targeting up to 12 million IO tokens for removal from circulation over the next year. The first burn was scheduled for June 11, coinciding with the network's third anniversary, with future burns funded by revenue generated from customer usage rather than new token issuance. Under the new system, at least 50% of post-payout network revenue received in IO tokens will be permanently destroyed, creating deflationary pressure that rewards long-term holders while preserving token utility as a scaling tool.
The burn program comes as io.net reports its strongest commercial period to date, with the company disclosing that it has signed an $8 million enterprise agreement, its largest contract to date, which contributes roughly $650,000 in monthly on-chain network earnings. Additional enterprise deals are currently progressing through advanced negotiation stages. Beyond enterprise adoption, io.net has become the largest decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) inference provider on OpenRouter, an AI model routing platform, processing more than 4 billion inference tokens each day while competing alongside centralized cloud computing providers. The company noted that major technology companies have committed more than $500 billion toward AI infrastructure projects across 2025 and 2026.
According to reports from The Block, io.net is transitioning from a fixed, time-based token emission model to the Incentive Dynamic Engine (IDE), a demand-responsive system designed to address the inherent volatility of native token incentives in DePIN protocols. The IDE represents a shift from speculative incentive design toward utility-linked tokenomics, ensuring that growth is governed by real-world usage rather than market cycles. This transformation aims to break the cycle where token price volatility directly impacts supplier profitability and network capacity. Under the new framework, supplier payouts are now tied to a stable U.S. dollar value rather than fluctuating token prices, with reserve mechanisms absorbing market volatility to allow providers to maintain predictable earnings even during periods of token price weakness.
According to crypto.eco lab, a tokenomics research firm that independently evaluated the system, the IDE was tested under several stress scenarios and found supplier returns remained stable during simulations that included a 55% drop in demand and a 50% decline in token price. When network demand exceeds payout requirements and total fees (f) exceed the payout target (p), the protocol enters a surplus state, with the algorithmic mechanism deploying excess revenue to conduct token buybacks and burns. This mechanism prevents the negative spiral where supplier exodus during market downturns triggers further demand reduction and token price decline. The company's CEO Gaurav Sharma emphasized that "Most token economies in our space are still built around the hope that prices go up. Looking beyond current operations, io.net is developing capabilities that would allow AI agents to autonomously source and manage computing resources through its Agent Cloud platform, described as part of building a self-sustaining on-chain compute economy supported by decentralized infrastructure providers around the world. The stable economic engine is essential for this vision, as autonomous agents require a predictable environment to manage budgets and execute complex tasks without constant human intervention.
