Genius Foundation has launched Genius.fun on BNB Chain, providing crypto communities with a platform to create tokens, build treasuries with tokenized public-company shares, and coordinate shareholder campaigns. According to the Foundation's September 17 press release shared with crypto.news, the new launchpad connects community-created tokens with tokenized public equities, allowing participants to pool capital around a company and accumulate exposure to its shares. The platform presents board campaigns and hostile takeovers as possible uses of accumulated equity, moving beyond meme-based trading to organize around corporate ownership.
Rather than offering standard meme-token launches, Genius.fun allows creators to choose trading pairs that may include BNB, USDT, USDC, or tokenized assets from Ondo, bStocks, xStocks and 4Stocks. As reported by the Foundation, creators may collect up to 1.25% of trading fees generated by their tokens, while another 0.25% is directed toward token buybacks and supply locking. From the token's trading page, users can monitor its progress from launch through graduation, with a token becoming eligible to move to PancakeSwap once it reaches 15 BNB. The decentralized exchange serves as Genius.fun's graduation partner.
Binance founder Changpeng "CZ" Zhao applauded the new BNB Chain launchpad with a single clap emoji on Thursday, which immediately triggered a significant market response. As reported by multiple crypto news sources, the GENIUS token spiked above $0.42 within hours of Zhao's endorsement, though it later drifted back through the day. The token carries a market cap near $118 million, making it small enough that a single post from Zhao can significantly impact its price movement. Zhao later questioned whether his post caused the move, noting he never checks charts and pointed to the project's own product release instead. His posts have previously moved small BNB Chain markets, including one viral message in July that handed a single buyer a 357x return on a token named after him.
According to the Foundation, communities could use accumulated positions to support shareholder proposals, seek board representation, run activist campaigns, or pursue acquisitions. Such actions would require more than holding a community token, as eligible tokenized positions may be redeemed for the underlying equity. The Foundation noted that eligible tokenized positions would depend on the structure of each paired product and its issuer. A hostile takeover generally involves gaining control without board approval, though Genius.fun has not announced a specific company targeted by users. Established markets dispute the premise, with AMC's chief executive recently calling stock tokens fake equity, and stock token voting rights varying by issuer.
On September 17, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission granted five-year relief for eligible tokenized securities venues, permitting approved platforms to trade tokenized National Market System stocks through permissioned automated market makers. Under the SEC order, eligible tokenized shares must carry the same rights and privileges as conventional shares they represent, while synthetic products that merely track stocks through derivatives do not qualify for relief. The Foundation did not state whether the platform would seek SEC exemption access or make services available to U.S. users. BNB Chain nonetheless ranks among the busiest venues for tokenized stock trading, though the concept remains unproven whether any token campaign will reach an actual shareholder vote.
