Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has unveiled a comprehensive privacy system for AI agents using Tor routing, zkAPI payments, and local prompt rewriting. According to his latest X post, the system combines separate Tor circuits for each AI conversation with random cover traffic to make network activity harder to track. The setup runs through a daemon compatible with the OpenAI API, with sandbox restrictions using Bubblewrap technology to route network activity through Tor. Buterin described the system as becoming "quite usable" for practical work, though he acknowledged substantial delays and vulnerabilities to coordinated traffic analysis. The implementation uses local prompt rewriting with a bring-your-own-local-model arrangement, allowing users to select their own rewriting model, with Buterin's setup using qwen3.8-flash-next.
