Crypto whales made significant purchases in three altcoins during the first 30 hours of September 2026, according to on-chain data from Nansen. The buying activity occurred against a broader market decline, with the market opening 2.2% below Tuesday's high. This whale accumulation comes during a month where Bitcoin has closed lower in five of the last eight years, as reported by Nansen.
Nansen-labelled crypto whale wallets increased their UNI holdings from 3.20 million to 3.46 million tokens on September 2, representing a 257,777-token increase worth approximately $1.62 million. The whale cohort expanded from eight wallets to nine, indicating a new large holder joined the group. Fresh wallets took in $2.91 million while exchange balances fell by 351,274 UNI tokens. UNI has gained 9% in 24 hours and 47% on the week, returning to the whale buying list after previous purchases in July.
Orca demonstrated the cleanest contrarian setup among the three altcoins, with labelled crypto whale balances rising from 160,325 to 201,097 ORCA tokens, representing a 25.4% jump while the token fell 1.3%. The whale cohort remained stable at 10 wallets, indicating existing holders conducted the buying activity. Exchanges lost $263,753 of ORCA in 24 hours, representing the second-largest outflow in 30 days, according to Nansen data. ORCA has since surged 15% to $1.53 on Monday, September 7th, with the price reaching $1.646 before settling near $1.605, leaving $1.739 as the next major resistance level.
PUMP carried the most disagreement among the three altcoins, with whale balances rising by 62.75 million tokens worth approximately $272,000, while fresh wallets added $1.83 million and the price fell 3.5%. However, the selling pressure was significant, with smart traders selling $475,249, top-profit wallets selling $1.80 million, and exchange flows flipping from an $885,645 outflow to a $739,671 inflow. The company burns $997,700 worth of PUMP daily, creating a built-in buyer mechanism that reduces supply.
According to Nansen analysis, this represents a bet on three tokens with built-in buyers rather than an altcoin season. The whale cohort sold on decentralized exchanges while balances rose, indicating large wallets held more rather than actively buying on open markets. UNI shows the deepest confirmation with usage backing the move, ORCA demonstrates the sharpest divergence, and PUMP presents the loudest counter-argument. ORCA's current rally faces a crucial test at the $1.70-$1.80 resistance zone, where dense sell liquidity could either stall momentum or intensify a squeeze toward the psychological $2 level. The weekly picture for ORCA remains weaker with negative whale flow over seven days despite the strong single-day performance.
