ADA has surged nearly 9% weekly to trade around $0.279, approaching the critical $0.28 resistance level that previously acted as an important price zone. The token has gained 2.7% over 24 hours and 4% since midnight UTC hours, significantly outperforming major cryptocurrencies as Bitcoin and Ether gained just 1% and 0.5% respectively. According to CoinGecko data, the move extends a recovery that took ADA from around $0.244 on Oct. 3 to above $0.27 by Oct. 5. CoinGlass shows ADA futures open interest around $696 million at the latest reading, with 24-hour futures volume reaching $1.17 billion. The rally reflects growing enthusiasm for Cardano's RealFi institutional-credit product and anticipation of the upcoming Dijkstra scalability upgrade, though the precise catalyst remains unclear.
The outperformance may be explained by the RealFi momentum backdrop, with the product officially launching on October 1 allowing users to route stablecoins into institutional credit for up to 9% annual yields. As reported by Intersect, the protocol introduced USDrf and sUSDrf, with USDrf described as a dollar-linked asset backed by a portfolio including direct lending, money-market instruments, U.S. Treasury bills and floating-rate bonds. Users can stake USDrf for sUSDrf, which carries exposure to the protocol's yield structure. RealFi's launch partners included SundaeSwap, Lace and Liqwid, with the service opening its Voyager Season as it moved from testing into live Cardano activity. However, access is restricted in some regions, including the U.S., U.K. and European Union.
ADA has pushed through a long-running descending trendline on the weekly chart and is now testing the 0.277–0.28 area, with the weekly Bollinger Bands placing the upper band near $0.2738 and ADA trading slightly above it. Weekly RSI stands at 56.47, above both the neutral 50 level and its moving average around 44.07, remaining comfortably below the traditional 70 overbought threshold. According to crypto.news, a weekly close above roughly $0.277 would strengthen the current breakout structure, with the next immediate area around $0.30, followed by the 0.35–0.40 range on the weekly chart. Fibonacci resistance appears close to $0.50, while $0.80 and the 0.95–1 region sit much farther above, though these levels remain technical reference points rather than confirmed targets.
Whale activity rose significantly during the rally, with Santiment counting 413 ADA transactions worth at least $100,000 on Oct. 5, roughly 2.2 times the weekday average recorded between Sept. 7 and Oct. 2. The analytics firm reported that open interest increased approximately 25% to $304 million during the rally, with measured in ADA showing 13% growth that reduces the chance the increase came solely from ADA becoming more valuable. Short covering likely played some role, with funding reaching its most negative reading in a month on Oct. 2 before later turning positive, according to Santiment. However, $2.1 million worth of short positions were liquidated according to CoinGlass data, catching bears on the wrong side of the trade. The Long/Short Ratio plunged to 0.71, showing a bearish skew across tracked exchanges, though the 355% jump in Derivatives Volume indicates more outstanding positions and heavier trading activity. Recent AMBCrypto analysis suggests the rally is backed by strong accumulation rather than just short squeezes, with whale activity hitting a peak of 413 transactions on Oct. 5 - the highest since June 4th.
Cardano will attend TOKEN2049 Singapore on October 7 and 8 after its Summit funding proposal failed, with the project's official page stating it will have its largest Asia-Pacific presence yet. The appearance follows the cancellation of a separately proposed Cardano Summit after the community rejected the required treasury funding, with the vote receiving 65.2% support but failing to reach the required two-thirds threshold. The conference begins Oct. 7 at Marina Bay Sands with over 25,000 expected attendees, 300 speakers and 500 exhibitors. Separately, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson renewed his long-running request for Gemini to list ADA after Gemini co-founder Tyler Winklevoss posted about the exchange's anniversary, with Hoskinson simply saying "List ADA." However, Gemini's official supported-assets disclosures do not currently show ADA among its main trading assets.
