Zen Technologies shares rose 2.5% to ₹1,762.50 in early trade on Tuesday following the announcement of a ₹295 crore order from the Ministry of Defence for simulators. According to latest exchange filings, the order, awarded by a domestic entity, is expected to be executed within a year. The company clarified that neither its promoter nor promoter group entities have any interest in the awarding authority, and the contract does not qualify as a related-party transaction. This latest order adds to the company's growing order pipeline, which totals ₹1,239.02 crore as of the June quarter.
The company closed the June quarter with a consolidated order book of ₹1,239.02 crore and subsequently received another simulator order worth ₹177.50 crore in July 2026 for tank and crew gunnery simulator upgradation and integration. As reported by LiveMint, Zen Technologies said the current order book, with the majority scheduled for revenue conversion from Q2FY27 onwards, provides strong revenue visibility. The ₹295 crore order value is significant relative to the company's recent earnings trajectory, representing approximately 156% of the pre-computed average quarterly revenue of ₹188.70 crore over the last four quarters. When viewed against the trailing twelve-month (TTM) revenue of ₹754.80 crore, this single order contributes substantially to the book-to-bill ratio. The total disclosed order book stands at ₹355.00 crore, representing 1.88 quarters of average quarterly revenue coverage.
In Q1FY27, Zen Technologies introduced new products including an AI-powered anti-drone system, the Hyperstrike interceptor drone, the Zen Vrishab unmanned ground vehicle and the Integrated Smart Border Suite. According to LiveMint, the company further strengthened its anti-drone portfolio by launching the High-Altitude Man-Portable Anti-Drone System (MPADS) in late July, an indigenous, lightweight counter-UAS solution designed for mountainous and remote terrain protection. The company is also expanding into Air Force training after establishing presence with the Army and Navy, having successfully completed R&D for its first Air Force product offering.
For the June-ending quarter, Zen Technologies reported revenue of ₹141.6 crore, down from ₹158.2 crore in the corresponding quarter last year and sequentially from ₹200 crore in Q4FY26. As reported by CNBC TV18, profit after tax (PAT) stood at ₹34.4 crore, compared with ₹48 crore in the June 2025 quarter, marking a decline of around 27.8% YoY. On a sequential basis, profit improved from ₹31.53 crore in Q4FY26. More concerning is the compression in operating margins, with Operating Profit Margin (OPM) falling from 37.40% in Q3FY26 to 24.75% in Q1FY27. Net profit also contracted from ₹55.70 crore to ₹31.90 crore over the same period. Recent quarterly execution metrics show signs of deceleration, with revenue declining from ₹193.40 crore in Q3FY26 to ₹160.80 crore in Q1FY27.
The company's balance sheet provides ample cushion to execute these new orders without external financing. The current ratio stands at an impressive 8.86x, indicating strong liquidity. Total Liabilities/Equity is just 0.11x, reflecting a capital-light structure with minimal leverage. Operating cashflow in FY26 was robust at ₹244.60 crore, resulting in free cashflow of ₹185.30 crore. This strong cash generation capacity suggests the company can fund working capital requirements for the new simulator supply contract internally. The company's board approved extending the timeline for utilisation of the unutilised balance of funds raised through its Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP) by 24 months, from August 23, 2026, to August 22, 2028. Additionally, the board approved the reappointment of Shilpa Choudari as Whole-Time Director for a further three-year term effective November 1, 2026.
