Waterways Leisure Tourism shares adjusted for the company's 1:10 stock split on Tuesday, marking the completion of the corporate action. According to Moneycontrol, the company had fixed August 25 as the ex-date and August 26 as the record date for the stock split. Following the adjustment, shares of Waterways Leisure Tourism traded at ₹105.70 apiece on the NSE, up 1.29 per cent from the adjusted price. The sharp difference in quoted price is due to the stock split and does not represent a corresponding 90 per cent fall in share value. Under SEBI's T+1 settlement cycle, investors must purchase shares at least one trading day before the record date for shares to be credited to their demat accounts in time and for eligibility for the corporate action. Today marks the final trading day for investors to purchase shares and qualify for the 1:10 stock split, as the record date falls on Wednesday.
As reported by Moneycontrol, the board approved splitting every existing equity share with a face value of ₹10 into 10 equity shares with a face value of ₹1 each. Following this 1:10 split, an investor holding one share worth ₹1,000 before the record date will see their holdings increase to 10 shares valued at around ₹100 each, maintaining the total value of their stock holding broadly unchanged, barring market movements. The company emphasizes that while the number of outstanding shares increases, the overall market capitalization remains unchanged, making the stock more accessible to retail investors and potentially improving participation and trading volumes. This mechanism ensures that the total value of an investor's holdings remains constant despite the increased number of shares. The company states that the move is intended to improve the stock's liquidity and make it more affordable, potentially expanding its appeal to a wider pool of investors.
According to Moneycontrol, Waterways Leisure Tourism shares had closed at ₹1,043.60 in the previous session before the stock split adjustment. The company currently maintains a market capitalization of approximately ₹7,552 crore. This performance comes after the company's ₹585 crore initial public offering was subscribed 1.63 times, with retail investors showing the strongest participation by subscribing their reserved portion more than 4 times. The stock's recent rally reflects strong investor confidence in the cruise liner operator's growth prospects. The company had announced the stock split only seven trading sessions after making its stock market debut on July 1, demonstrating rapid growth and investor interest in the recently listed travel company.
As reported by The Economic Times, Waterways Leisure Tourism operates as India's largest domestic ocean cruise operator and owns the popular Cordelia Cruises brand. The company's flagship vessel, MV Empress, has a passenger capacity of more than 2,000 and operates cruises across key domestic destinations including Mumbai, Goa, Kochi, Chennai, Lakshadweep, Visakhapatnam and Puducherry. The company also offers select international sailings to Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. The company provides a diverse range of experiences, including food, a children's academy, a gaming arcade, a spa and salon, retail outlets, a casino, a fitness center, a rock-climbing wall, and swimming pools. Additionally, it offers specialized arrangements for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) events, as well as weddings, with comprehensive services that include venue arrangements, catering, entertainment, and accommodation.
According to Moneycontrol, the company states that the stock split is expected to increase trading volumes and broaden the shareholder base. The company emphasizes that the sub-division does not affect the overall capital structure or intrinsic value of the company, making it a strategic move to enhance market accessibility and participation in the stock. Jurgen Bailom, Chairman of the Board, Executive Director and CEO, commented on the shareholders' approval, stating that "The approval of the 1:10 share split marks another important milestone in Waterways Leisure Tourism's journey as we build a stronger and more accessible listed company. The decision reflects our commitment to making participation in our growth journey more accessible to a wider base of investors, while supporting greater liquidity and engagement in our equity." The lower share price can make the stock more accessible to retail investors, potentially improving participation and trading volumes while maintaining the company's overall market capitalization.
