Warner Music India has announced a partnership with SVF Entertainment, marking a significant expansion into West Bengal's regional music market. According to reports from NDTV Profit and ETBrandEquity, the collaboration brings together Warner Music India's international network with SVF Entertainment's strong position in Bengal's entertainment industry. The partnership is specifically designed to help Bengali artists, film music, and independent musicians reach more listeners both in India and internationally, with the alliance bringing together Warner Music's global network with an established entertainment company in Eastern India to accelerate the growth of Bengali music and create new opportunities for artists and soundtracks to reach audiences across India and the world. As per Music Business Worldwide, the deal was officially announced on Wednesday, June 17, with the Warner Music Group division making the announcement.
This partnership represents Warner Music India's continued focus on regional music markets, following previous investments in South Indian, Punjabi, Haryanvi and Bhojpuri markets. As reported by NDTV Profit and ETBrandEquity, Jay Mehta, managing director of recorded music and publishing for India and SAARC at Warner Music India, emphasized that Bengal played a major role in shaping India's cultural and musical identity. The company views this collaboration as strengthening their presence in Eastern India and creating pathways for Bengali artists to reach global audiences, with Mehta stating this is a landmark moment for Bengali music and a major step in their mission to take India's regional music to the global stage. According to Music Business Worldwide, the partnership is the latest in a series of regional moves by Warner Music India, which was launched in 2020. This expansion into West Bengal represents the next step in Warner Music India's overall mission to scale India's regional music ecosystems.
Headquartered in Kolkata, SVF Entertainment has been part of the Bengali entertainment industry for more than 30 years, according to NDTV Profit reports. The company has produced over 180 Bengali films and distributed more than 1,400 films in different languages during this period. Founded in 1995, the company is led by co-founders Shrikant Mohta, Mahendra Soni and Vishnu Mohta, and describes itself as Eastern India's largest media business. Its music division, SVF Music, has worked with artists including Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, Anupam Roy and Jeet Gannguli. The company's catalog includes Bengali tracks such as Tomake Chai and Bojhena Shey Bojhena, and SVF also operates the Bengali streaming service Hoichoi. As reported by Music Business Worldwide, Mahendra Soni, Co-founder and Director of SVF Entertainment, highlighted the company's commitment to building platforms for Bengali artists, music and storytelling for three decades, noting that as audiences increasingly discover regional music beyond linguistic and geographic boundaries, this partnership provides an opportunity to take Bengali music to a much wider audience.
According to recent reports, SVF Music holds a 70% market share in the Bengali-language music market, making it India's largest Bengali-language label. The company's extensive catalog spans more than 2,000 songs across soundtracks, pop and devotional music, with releases including 80% of film composer and singer-songwriter Anupam Roy's discography until date, as well as tracks by music director Jeet Gannguli and playback singers Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal. As per Music Business Worldwide, Warner Music India managing director Jay Mehta noted that "Some of India's most enduring cultural movements have emerged from Bengal, and its music continues to inspire generations across borders," emphasizing that SVF has been instrumental in building that legacy as the ideal partner for their commitment to regional music in India.
