Waaree Transpower Private Limited, a subsidiary of Waaree Energies Ltd., announced a ₹192 crore investment to establish a 500 MVA, 400 kV transformer manufacturing facility. According to reports from The Hindu BusinessLine, ETEnergyworld, and Rediff Moneynews, the company made this announcement on Tuesday, marking a significant expansion of its high-voltage production capabilities to meet rising demand from India's power and renewable energy sectors. The investment is part of Waaree Transpower's broader strategy to build a scalable, technologically advanced, and diversified electrical infrastructure business, capable of supporting India's evolving power sector while creating capabilities for emerging opportunities across renewable energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and grid infrastructure. The facility is expected to become operational by April 2027, as reported by multiple sources.
The new plant is scheduled to become operational by April 2027, as reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, ETEnergyworld, and Rediff Moneynews. Once commissioned, the facility will enable Waaree Transpower to serve customers across 132 kV, 220 kV, and 400 kV voltage classes, allowing the company to manufacture transformers across these voltage ranges. The expansion is driven by rapidly growing electricity demand and the increasing need for robust transmission and distribution infrastructure to facilitate the integration of large-scale renewable energy generation and energy storage capacity into the grid. The new facility will complement Waaree Transpower's existing manufacturing capabilities and enable the company to participate in larger and more technically demanding transmission and power infrastructure projects. In a bid to become a fully integrated company, Waaree Transpower is attempting to move towards backward integration, joining the league of companies like Premier Energies, which acquired 51% of Transcon Industries for ₹500.3 crore in October 2025.
Waaree Transpower currently holds an order book of approximately ₹360 crore for execution during FY 2026–27, which the company described as a foundation for its next phase of growth, according to The Hindu BusinessLine, ETEnergyworld, and Rediff Moneynews. The company, formerly known as KOTSONS, specialises in power and distribution transformers, with a focus on inverter duty transformers used in solar energy applications. With the addition of the new facility, Waaree Transpower is further strengthening its capabilities across the power infrastructure value chain, expanding beyond renewable energy applications to address a broader spectrum of high-voltage transmission requirements. The company said the new facility will strengthen its position across the power infrastructure value chain while supporting opportunities in renewable energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and grid infrastructure. The firm noted that the new 500 MVA / 400 kV facility will complement Waaree Transpower's existing capabilities and enable the company to participate in larger, more complex, and technically demanding power infrastructure projects.
Viren Doshi, Director at Waaree Energies Limited, stated that the investment reflects long-term confidence in India's power infrastructure growth and the increasing demand for reliable, high-voltage transformation capacity as renewable energy deployment scales up, as reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, ETEnergyworld, and Rediff Moneynews. The company's stock performance reflects market sentiment following the major investment announcement, with the expansion coming against the backdrop of India's growing power transmission and renewable energy infrastructure needs. Doshi emphasized that as renewable energy deployment accelerates, "strengthening the transmission network and enabling the seamless integration of new generation and storage capacity into the grid will be equally critical." The ₹192 crore investment signifies significant confidence in India's power infrastructure sector and positions Waaree Transpower to capitalize on the growing demand for high-voltage transformation capacity, joining other companies like Saatvik Green Energy, which acquired 80% of Melcon Transformers & Electricals in April 2026.
