The violation pertains to network rollout obligations as specified under the Notice Inviting Applications 2022 (the bid document), which needs to be complied with once the spectrum is assigned. The 2022 auction marked India's first sale of 5G airwaves and was also the largest spectrum sale the country has ever conducted. Held in August 2022, a total of 51.2 GHz of spectrum was sold across multiple bands, including 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz. In the June 2024 auction, Vodafone Idea picked up 30 MHz of spectrum for ₹3,510.40 crore, against Bharti Airtel's 97 MHz for ₹6,856.76 crore and Reliance Jio's 14.4 MHz for ₹973.62 crore. As part of Vodafone Idea's fundraising efforts, Aditya Birla Group announced in May 2026 to infuse ₹4,730 crore into the company through a preferential issue of fully convertible warrants. The board of Vodafone Idea approved the issuance of warrants to an Aditya Birla Group promoter entity, with each warrant convertible into one fully paid-up equity share. The fresh capital infusion comes at a time when the telecom operator is stepping up investments in network expansion and 5G rollout. Additionally, Vodafone Idea's 31st Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026 through Video Conference, with the register of members remaining closed from August 20-27 for AGM purposes.
