Transrail Lighting shares surged nearly 13% on Tuesday, September 22, following the completion of phase 1 of its brownfield expansion for conductor manufacturing at its Silvassa location. The stock opened at ₹418.50 and touched an intraday high of ₹467.40, representing a significant rally from the previous session's performance. This strong market response demonstrates investor confidence in the company's expansion strategy and enhanced manufacturing capabilities. The expansion has significantly enhanced the company's conductor manufacturing capacity, with capacity increasing to 40,800 km per annum from the previous 24,000 km per annum, representing a 70% increase in capacity. According to LiveMint, the stock has jumped 16% from its 52-week low of ₹400.65 touched last week on September 16, with trading volume exceeding 5 million shares on BSE and NSE combined.
The company is currently undertaking Phase 2 of the conductor capacity expansion, which is expected to double the manufacturing capacity from the original 24,000 km per annum. As reported in the regulatory filing, upon completion of the second phase, the company's conductor manufacturing capacity will reach 81,600 km per annum, representing a 200% increase from the original capacity. This phased approach demonstrates the company's systematic approach to scaling its manufacturing capabilities to meet growing market demand in the power transmission sector. The current expansion is not the end of the company's manufacturing ramp-up, with Phase 2 expected to take capacity even higher, giving the company additional headroom to scale production as its EPC requirements and external opportunities increase.
Conductors are a critical component of power transmission infrastructure, and by increasing its in-house manufacturing capacity, Transrail can strengthen its ability to support its EPC business and execute a larger volume of transmission and distribution projects. The Phase 1 expansion at Silvassa takes annual capacity from 24,000 km to 40,800 km — a 70% increase that will improve execution efficiency and help the company cater to growing market demand. The move is particularly relevant because Transrail operates an integrated business model, spanning the design and engineering of transmission lines, manufacturing, construction and testing, positioning it well to capitalize on the expanding transmission and distribution infrastructure market.
In Q1 FY27, Transrail Lighting secured fresh orders worth ₹1,034 crore, along with additional L1 orders worth around ₹400 crore. This took the company's unexecuted order book to ₹16,035 crore as of June 30, 2026, providing long-term revenue visibility. The substantial order book demonstrates strong demand for the company's power transmission solutions and positions it well for future growth in the competitive EPC market. Beyond conductors, the company's manufacturing capabilities include transmission towers and poles, while its EPC operations cover transmission lines, substations, railways, civil construction and solar projects, giving it exposure to a broader infrastructure opportunity rather than relying solely on conductor manufacturing.
Sudeep Shah, Vice President – Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities, noted that despite the recent recovery, Transrail stock continues to trade below its key short-term and long-term moving averages on the weekly chart. The MACD line remains below the zero line, indicating a bearish bias, while the ADX indicator shows DI− continuing to remain above DI+, signalling that bears continue to have the upper hand. Shah identified the 20-week EMA zone of ₹475-480 as likely immediate resistance for the stock. A decisive move above this zone could pave the way for a further pullback extension in the near term. For investors, the next trigger will be the pace at which Phase 2 is completed and the extent to which the additional capacity is utilised, as the company's ability to translate this enhanced manufacturing capability into higher execution and stronger revenue growth will be crucial for future performance.
