Travel services firm Thomas Cook (India) Ltd and its group company SOTC Travel launched a trip cancellation cover linked to visa rejection on Monday, April 20, 2026. According to the latest corporate press release, this product is described as a first-of-its-kind solution in the Indian travel and travel insurance segment, designed to address customer concerns around non-refundable expenses in the event of visa denials amid evolving global travel regulations and visa protocols. The insurance solution directly addresses a long-standing concern among travellers—losing significant upfront payments when visas are denied, positioning the companies as pioneers in the Indian travel industry.
Under the cover, if a traveller's visa application—excluding immigrant and employment visas—is rejected, the insured will be indemnified for non-recoverable advance payments made towards travel and accommodation, along with applicable official cancellation charges. As reported by Thomas Cook (India) Limited, the insurance solution, underwritten by ICICI Lombard, ensures reimbursement for non-recoverable advance payments related to accommodation and travel. The product spans multiple travel formats, including group tours, FIT journeys, MICE, and corporate travel, broadening its applicability across customer segments. Abraham Alapatt, President and Group Head – Marketing, Service Quality, Value Added Services and Innovation at Thomas Cook India and SOTC Travel, indicated that evolving global travel norms have made financial protection essential, highlighting that visa decisions remain beyond traveller control and rejections can disrupt plans significantly.
The visa rejection cover is available across group tours and free independent traveller (FIT) segments, as well as meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) and corporate travel businesses. According to the latest corporate announcement, this extends protection across a wide range of travel categories, with the companies stating that the offering strengthens their overall proposition across customer segments. The product spans multiple travel formats, including group tours, FIT journeys, MICE, and corporate travel, broadening its applicability across customer segments.
The launch reflects Thomas Cook India Group's broader strategy to enhance its value-added services portfolio by integrating insurance solutions into travel planning. As reported by Thomas Cook (India) Limited, by positioning itself as a more holistic service provider, the company aims to make travel planning more secure and predictable, addressing a critical gap in the market while reinforcing its leadership in customer-focused innovation. With this initiative, Thomas Cook India and SOTC Travel aim to strengthen trust and reduce hesitation in travel bookings, offering structured financial reassurance and improving customer confidence in an increasingly complex global travel landscape.
