People supply chain company TeamLease Services Ltd delivered mixed financial results for Q1 FY27, with consolidated net profit declining 2.1% year-on-year to ₹24.29 crore compared with ₹24.81 crore in the corresponding period last year. According to latest reports, revenue from operations increased 3.75% to ₹2,739.36 crore from ₹2,640.42 crore a year earlier. The company's total consolidated income stood at ₹2,753.65 crore, representing a 3.75% increase from ₹2,640.42 crore in the year-ago period. Consolidated profit before tax (PBT) grew 38% to ₹36 crore from ₹26 crore, demonstrating strong operational efficiency across all key financial metrics. EBITDA grew 3% year-on-year to ₹32 crore with an EBITDA margin of 1.04%, though this was down 52 basis points quarter-on-quarter due to the annual appraisal cycle impacting Specialised Staffing margins. EPS rose 31% YoY to ₹21 per share, reflecting strong earnings growth despite sequential margin compression.
The quarter marked a significant strategic shift as TeamLease completed the divestment of its entire 30% equity stake in joint venture Crystal HR and Security Solutions Private Limited, initiating a complete exit from this partnership. This decision reflects a proactive shift in capital allocation, with management focusing on core high-performance staffing segments rather than holding sub-scale joint venture stakes. The divestment consideration of ₹10.12 crore was determined based on arm's length negotiations and an independent valuation report. Upon completion, Crystal HR will cease to be a joint venture of TeamLease. The company also completed its share buyback programme approved by the board in May 2026, repurchasing up to 14,87,500 equity shares at ₹1,600 per share, aggregating up to ₹238 crore and representing 8.87% of its paid-up capital. The record date for the buyback was July 3, 2026.
Despite subdued hiring demand in general staffing, TeamLease demonstrated strong operational metrics during the quarter. As reported by CNBC TV18, the company added more than 700 associates with 4,130 net additions across its General and Specialised Staffing businesses. This growth was partially offset by the planned exit of 5,500 Degree Apprenticeship trainees. The 3% year-on-year decline in headcount was attributed to the insourcing of around 23,000 associates by a large NBFC client onto its own payroll in Q3 FY26 due to regulatory requirements. Q1 FY27 headcount stood at 3,41,330, with General Staffing at 2,90,500 and Specialised Staffing increasing by 13% to 7,630, while Degree Apprenticeship headcount decreased by 12% to 43,200. The RegTech business has turned positive, contributing ₹0.9 crore to EBITDA, signaling early traction in this growth vector. Management expects a healthy pipeline with 17,500 open positions and confidence in FY27 driven by improved portfolio mix, commercial discipline, and operating leverage.
According to CNBC TV18, TeamLease added 127 new enterprise client logos across its businesses during the quarter, demonstrating continued market expansion. The company completed its share buyback programme approved by the board in May 2026, repurchasing up to 14,87,500 equity shares at ₹1,600 per share, aggregating up to ₹238 crore and representing 8.87% of its paid-up capital. The record date for the buyback was July 3, 2026. The company's net free cash stood at ₹350 crore after accounting for the buyback outflow, with outstanding TDS receivables of around ₹145 crore. Trade receivables remained healthy with Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) in staffing at just 6 days, though TDS receivable outstanding stood at approximately ₹145 crore. Looking ahead, TeamLease has provided specific margin guidance for its key segments. The company targets specialized staffing EBITDA margin at 8-9% over the next four to five quarters, while HR services (EdTech, Regtech) are expected to reach 8-10% EBITDA margin for the full year. Near-term cost pressures are expected from regulatory changes, especially wage definition and compliance. EBITDA margin in staffing expected to remain at 1% for Q2, with expansion anticipated in Q3 and Q4 as investments in sales and hiring engines take effect. Management noted that EdTech Q1 is structurally weak but expected to recover through the year. The company's operating cash flow to EBITDA conversion was 100% for the quarter, with funding exposure at 16%, both remaining flat sequentially. Labour code reforms and formalization trends favor organized staffing, benefiting large players like TeamLease in the competitive landscape.
