GDL Leasing & Finance reported a significant decline in profitability for the quarter ended June 2026, with standalone net profit falling 58% to ₹13.60 lakh compared to ₹32.43 lakh in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The Board approved these unaudited standalone financial results on August 07, 2026, with the results reviewed by statutory auditors Jain Akshay & Associates. This substantial profit decline was primarily attributed to a tenfold increase in impairment charges to ₹34.44 lakh from ₹3.58 lakh in Q1 FY25, highlighting deteriorating asset quality concerns.
Despite the profit decline, the company demonstrated strong revenue growth during the quarter. Total revenue from operations increased by 27% to ₹87.91 lakh in Q1 FY2026, up from ₹69.41 lakh in the same quarter of the previous financial year. Interest income grew 19% to ₹58.47 lakh from ₹48.94 lakh, while fees and commission income surged 44% to ₹29.44 lakh from ₹20.47 lakh. However, total expenses more than doubled to ₹69.65 lakh from ₹32.29 lakh, primarily due to higher impairment costs, indicating margin pressure from elevated provisioning requirements.
The company's impairment of financial instruments was the largest expense component at ₹34.44 lakh, representing a significant increase from ₹3.58 lakh in Q1 FY25. Additionally, fees and commission expenses also rose to ₹14.04 lakh from ₹12.68 lakh in the corresponding quarter. Finance cost remained low at ₹2.70 lakh, while profit before tax declined 50.82% to ₹18.26 lakh compared to ₹37.13 lakh in Q1 FY25. The divergence between top-line growth and bottom-line contraction points to asset quality concerns, with the tenfold increase in impairment charges suggesting deterioration in the recoverability of certain financial assets.
The net profit decline of 58% represents a significant deterioration in the company's profitability position, with absolute profit falling from ₹32.43 lakh to ₹13.60 lakh year-on-year. The earnings per share declined to ₹0.27 from ₹0.65 in the previous year. As reported by Jain Akshay & Associates, the substantial profit decline occurred despite the company achieving 27% revenue growth, highlighting how operational efficiency gains were offset by credit risk realizations and provisioning requirements during the quarter.
