Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has successfully entered the Sri Lankan market through its deployment of TCS BaNCS for Treasury at Indian Bank's Colombo branch, marking a significant milestone for the platform's international expansion. According to the company's official release, this deployment follows the successful implementation of the same platform across Indian Bank's operations in India and at GIFT City in Gujarat, reinforcing a unified approach to treasury operations across geographies. The platform's extension to Colombo will support the bank's efforts to establish a consistent approach to treasury operations across its domestic and overseas businesses, with this expansion representing TCS's commitment to helping financial institutions modernise core operations in international markets.
The platform deployment will help Indian Bank modernise its overseas treasury operations across money markets, investment management, and foreign exchange. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine and Business Upturn, the transformation will enable the Colombo branch to move to a single, integrated treasury platform that supports unified deal processing, real-time position visibility, stronger risk and limit controls, and compliance-ready reporting. The bank will be able to reduce manual intervention, improve straight-through processing, and strengthen audit and regulatory readiness through a single source of truth. The integrated platform will provide real-time visibility of financial positions, strengthen risk management and regulatory reporting, and reduce manual processing of transactions. The integration aims to provide Indian Bank's Colombo branch with a modern treasury platform that enhances real-time risk visibility, improves straight-through processing, and offers a scalable foundation for future growth.
S Viswanathan, CEO of Indian Bank Sri Lanka Operations, stated that as treasury operations in Sri Lanka evolve, the bank needs a platform that can support growth with greater control, transparency and operational agility. According to The Hindu BusinessLine and Business Upturn, Venkateshwaran Srinivasan, Global Head, Financial Solutions at TCS, emphasized that treasury transformation today is about enabling banks to operate with speed, insight, and confidence in dynamic market environments. He noted that TCS BaNCS for Treasury had already demonstrated its capabilities in the bank's India and GIFT City operations and added that the platform would support Indian Bank's overseas business with treasury functionality, operational resilience and regulatory capabilities. He further stated that "With TCS BaNCS for Treasury, we are proud to support Indian Bank's overseas business in Sri Lanka with a solution that brings together deep treasury functionality, operational resilience, and regulatory confidence."
For the bank's Colombo branch, the platform will provide greater control over foreign exchange and market risk exposures, faster deal execution and settlement cycles, and improved regulatory reporting. As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine and Business Upturn, it will also support strategic decision-making by giving treasury teams a consolidated view of positions, limits, liquidity, and exposures across instruments and currencies. The consolidated information available through the system will help treasury teams assess positions, limits, liquidity and exposures, supporting operational monitoring and decision-making. The deployment is expected to help Indian Bank improve oversight of foreign exchange and market risks, accelerate transaction processing and strengthen compliance with regulatory requirements. With seamless deployment and continued maintenance, TCS will help the bank accelerate time-to-value while ensuring smooth integration with its existing systems and international market infrastructure.
