Tata Projects Limited has appointed Sukumar Hebbar as its managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO), with immediate effect. According to reports from Business Standard, ETInfra, PTI, and New Delhi, Hebbar succeeds Vinayak Pai, who has led the company since 2022. The company announced this leadership change in a statement issued on Monday, marking a significant transition in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) arm of the Tata Group. The appointment strengthens Tata Projects' leadership team as the company looks to expand its presence across urban infrastructure, data centres and industrial EPC businesses, as the company enters its next phase of expansion across these key business segments.

In his new role, Hebbar will oversee Tata Projects' operations across infrastructure, data centres, urban development and industrial EPC segments. With Hebbar at the helm, Tata Projects is expected to strengthen its focus on executing large-scale infrastructure projects while expanding its capabilities in high-growth sectors such as data centres, sustainable energy and urban infrastructure. The company's statement emphasized this strategic focus on expanding operations across multiple infrastructure segments, positioning the leadership change as part of a broader growth strategy within the Tata Group's portfolio.
According to Business Standard, ETInfra, PTI, and New Delhi, Hebbar joins Tata Projects after more than three decades at Larsen & Toubro, where he most recently served as senior vice-president and IC head of the transportation infrastructure business. His previous responsibilities at L&T included overseeing roads, bridges, formation and railways, building the Health Business unit into a profitable vertical and securing data centre orders. Hebbar has more than 35 years of experience in infrastructure and construction at Larsen & Toubro, with his experience covering healthcare infrastructure and data centres beyond traditional transportation projects. He successfully delivered iconic projects such as the Ram Mandir, Navi Mumbai International Airport, and Kartavya Bhawan. An architecture graduate from the University of Mysore, Hebbar is also an alumnus of INSEAD's Advanced Management Programme in Organisational Leadership, having begun his career in 1990 as a graduate engineer trainee.
