Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV) and Stellantis on Monday signed a definitive agreement to expand their strategic partnership to include advanced technology and product development. According to reports from Business Standard, the agreement builds on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in February 2026 and marks an important expansion of the companies' long-standing strategic partnership. The collaboration will address different customer, regulatory and operating requirements across international markets, with the expanded partnership combining Tata Motors' vehicle technology with Stellantis' engineering capabilities to develop India-made vehicles for more than 50 global markets.
Under the agreement, TMPV will provide Stellantis with access to its advanced product technology and vehicle architecture, which Stellantis will build upon through its product development and engineering capabilities in India. As reported by Business Standard, the vehicles will be manufactured at Fiat India Automobiles Private Ltd (FIAPL), a 50:50 joint venture between TMPV and Stellantis. This manufacturing facility will produce vehicles for more than 50 global markets, utilizing India's competitive engineering strengths and manufacturing scale to accelerate export ambitions and further anchor India as a key node in the global production network.
This development came after a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in February 2026 to explore collaboration in manufacturing, engineering and supply chains in India and overseas. According to Business Standard, the latest agreement formalises collaboration in product technology and vehicle architecture, turning the intent into a specific product technology and architecture collaboration. The companies said the partnership would use India's engineering capabilities and manufacturing scale to expand exports and strengthen the country's role in their global production network.
Shailesh Chandra, managing director and chief executive officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, emphasized the partnership's long-term development and strategic importance. As reported by Business Standard, Chandra stated that the partnership has grown steadily over more than two decades, built on mutual trust and complementary strengths. He noted that the agreement marks an important next step, extending the relationship into advanced vehicle technology and architecture, reflecting the strength and competitiveness of TMPV's capabilities in these areas. Chandra added that Stellantis will leverage TMPV's capabilities to develop products for global markets, creating an exciting opportunity to combine respective strengths to create compelling vehicles engineered and made in India for customers in India and around the world.
Tianshu Xin, chief operating officer of Stellantis' Asia-Pacific region, highlighted the strategic benefits of the expanded collaboration and India's growing role in the global production network. According to Business Standard, Xin explained that by combining Tata Motors' strong capabilities in India with Stellantis' global product development and market reach, the agreement will help develop competitive vehicles in India and expand export potential across international markets. He noted that partnerships are central to how Stellantis creates value across Asia-Pacific, and this agreement reinforces India's growing role as a strategic manufacturing and development hub for Stellantis. Stellantis brings a portfolio of 14 iconic automotive brands and operations across Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific, combining with Tata Motors' technology capabilities to create a strong foundation for developing and manufacturing vehicles in India for markets worldwide.
