
Tata Communications Ltd. reported a fire incident at a leased premises in New Delhi on Friday morning, with the blaze brought under control without any loss of life. According to an exchange filing, the incident occurred at Next-Gen Tower in Greater Kailash-1, New Delhi, where the company has leased premises within the facility. As reported by the company, it has activated its business continuity protocols to ensure uninterrupted services and minimise disruption for customers served from the data centre located at the site. The company clarified in its regulatory filing that the incident occurred at a company functioning from leased premises at the facility, with the affected premises having been leased to another company.
The fire incident has caused significant connectivity issues for Google Cloud customers across major Indian cities. According to latest reports, the incident affected traffic originating from Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and nearby regions after a non-compute local Point of Presence (POP) in Delhi was isolated. As reported by Google Cloud, the fire led to an emergency power shutdown at the facility, isolating a local point of presence in Delhi and reducing network capacity across the metropolitan area. The disruption has impacted Google Cloud services that rely on the affected data centre infrastructure, highlighting the interconnected nature of telecommunications networks and the critical role of data centre facilities in cloud service delivery. Google Cloud stated there was no workaround while restoration efforts continue, adding that it was exploring additional traffic mitigation measures to limit the impact.
Despite the fire incident and service disruptions, Tata Communications Ltd shares surged 2.78% to trade at ₹1,955.55 on Friday, demonstrating strong investor confidence in the company's operational resilience. The stock has shown remarkable momentum with a 22.93% gain over the last one month, significantly outperforming the BSE Teck index which gained only 0.13% during the same period. The BSE Teck index itself rose 1.05% to quote at 14,956.56 on Friday. Among other constituents of the index, Vodafone Idea Ltd increased 1.95% and Railtel Corporation of India Ltd added 1.84% on the day. The stock hit a record high of ₹2,050 on May 26, 2026, while touching a 52-week low of ₹1,323 on April 2, 2026.
The company said it promptly implemented business continuity measures to maintain service delivery from the affected data centre facility. Such protocols are designed to reroute operations and safeguard critical telecommunications and digital infrastructure services in the event of unforeseen disruptions. Following the incident, Tata Communications said it immediately activated its business continuity and disaster recovery protocols to ensure uninterrupted services for customers connected through the facility. The company stated that efforts are underway to minimize any potential disruption and maintain service continuity across its network operations, with the immediate priority remaining safety and operational continuity.
