
Syngene International Limited announced significant leadership changes with the resignation of Peter Bains as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. According to reports from CNBC TV18, Bains will step down from his position with effect from June 30, 2026, marking the end of his tenure at the biotechnology company. The Board has formally approved these changes following recommendations from the Nomination and Remuneration Committee (NRC), with the resignation effective from the close of business hours on June 30, 2026.
The Board has appointed Siddharth Mittal as the successor to Bains, effective July 1, 2026, subject to shareholders' approval. As reported by CNBC TV18, Mittal will serve as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for a five-year term, also joining the Executive Committee. His previous experience includes serving as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Biocon Limited from May 2013 to November 2019, where he held the role of President and Chief Financial Officer. The Board has also appointed Mittal as an Additional Director, designating him as a Key Managerial Personnel (KMP) of the Company.
In a separate development, the Board approved a change in role for Kiran Mazumdar Shaw from Non-Executive Chairperson to Executive Chairperson, effective April 1, 2026, also subject to shareholders' approval. According to CNBC TV18, this appointment will be for a five-year period and constitutes a change in status from her prior role as Non-Executive Chairperson, making her a Key Managerial Personnel (KMP) of the Company. Ms. Shaw is the founder of the Biocon Group and has over four decades of experience in biotechnology, leading Biocon into a global biopharmaceutical enterprise.
Following the announcement, Syngene International shares closed at ₹410.50 on the NSE, declining ₹8.25 or 1.97%.
