According to Business Standard, the strong market response reflects investor confidence in the company's strategic diversification plans. A combined 4.6 million shares changed hands on BSE and NSE during the session, demonstrating significant investor interest in the expansion announcement.
As reported by Business Standard, Symphony announced a calibrated and phased expansion of its India product portfolio into room air conditioners, BLDC ceiling fans and air purifiers. The company aims to broaden its addressable market through adjacent consumer-durable categories with long-term growth potential. The expansion will leverage Symphony's capabilities in cooling, brand building, distribution, consumer insights and after-sales service. The portfolio expansion will follow an asset-light model, with Symphony currently having no plans to invest in its own manufacturing capacity. Instead, the company intends to progressively deploy internal accruals towards product development, inventory, brand-building, channel and service readiness, and working capital requirements. The new products are proposed to be introduced selectively across product ranges, markets and distribution channels beginning in the December 2026 quarter, with the pace and scale depending on consumer response, execution readiness and satisfactory commercial outcomes.
The expansion strategy positions Symphony to capitalize on significant market opportunities, with the Indian room air conditioner market estimated at USD 8.59 billion for 2026 and urban penetration of only 10-15%, presenting substantial growth potential. By positioning itself in high-efficiency categories like BLDC fans and air purifiers, Symphony aligns with ongoing structural energy-efficiency trends in India. However, this entry intensifies competition in the highly competitive room AC space, challenging established giants like Voltas, Blue Star, and Havells. The company's asset-light, multi-product pivot is a carefully structured bid to transition from a seasonal air-cooling company into a perennial climate control and appliance player, while preserving its high Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) which has historically exceeded 40%. The expansion strategy is also consistent with the Company's stated focus on strengthening its Beyond India Summer Products (BISP) portfolio, while further reinforcing its leadership in the Indian household air cooler category.
According to Business Standard, Symphony's consolidated net profit declined 5% year-on-year to ₹40 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with ₹42 crore in Q1 FY26, while revenue from operations increased 8% Y-o-Y to ₹378 crore from ₹350 crore in the year-ago period. The company reported Q1 FY27 consolidated revenue of ₹378 crore (up 8% Y-o-Y) and adjusted EBITDA of ₹48 crore with a 12.6% margin, representing a 26% increase from ₹38 crore in Q1 FY26. The EBITDA margins improved to 12.6% from 10.7% on a year-on-year basis, supported by pre-season stocking, favourable product mix and cost discipline despite massive cost increases. The company successfully launched 17 new models in FY24 and FY25, reinforcing its continuous product innovation capabilities. Additionally, for Q1 FY27, Symphony's modern trade channel in India grew over 100%, demonstrating strong execution in new distribution channels.
According to Business Standard, Symphony's founder promoter, chairman and managing director, Achal Anil Bakeri plans to gift approximately 3.43 lakh equity shares, representing 0.5% of the company's equity share capital and valued at around ₹20 crore at current market prices. The transfer of shares will be made as gifts to either the spouse, parents, or immediate relatives of employees (including ex-employees and housekeeping help) of the company, and the family office. This corporate action demonstrates the company's commitment to employee welfare and family-oriented governance structure. Symphony is an Indian multinational company with a presence in more than 60 countries and is a global leader in the air-cooler industry, offering innovative, energy-efficient and customer-focused cooling solutions across residential, industrial and commercial segments.
