Serentica Renewables has announced plans to invest ₹1 lakh crore in Rajasthan's clean energy sector over the coming years, as reported by Enersider Desk. The company has already deployed more than ₹10,000 crore in the state, demonstrating its long-term commitment to the region. This substantial investment reflects the company's strategic focus on enabling hard-to-abate sectors through firm and dispatchable renewable energy solutions that combine scale, reliability and affordability. KKR-backed Serentica Renewables, established in 2022 with a $650 million investment from KKR, operates as a renewable independent power producer committed to decarbonising hard-to-abate industries by providing firm dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) solutions.
According to Enersider Desk reports, Rajasthan now accounts for over 50 per cent of Serentica Renewables' total solar portfolio. The company's major assets are currently located in Bikaner and Jaisalmer, with plans to expand to Bhadla in the next phase. This geographic concentration in western Rajasthan positions the company strategically for significant renewable energy development in the region. As reported by Enersider Desk, CEO Akshay Hiranandani stated that "Rajasthan is a critical pillar of our growth strategy and is fast emerging as a leader in renewable energy. India's energy transition depends on delivering reliable, round-the-clock clean power to industries, and our upcoming BESS project in Bikaner will be an important step in enabling firm, dispatchable renewable energy."
These Rajasthan projects are part of Serentica Renewables' planned renewable energy pipeline of 27,000 MW. The company currently has an operational portfolio of over 2,500 MW and an additional under-construction portfolio of over 3,000 MW. The company is set to commission Phase I of the 200 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Bikaner, while Phase II of the 800 MWh BESS project is expected to come online over the next three months. It is also planning to expand its Fatehgarh solar platform with an initial 1,270 MWp, followed by an additional 500 MWp and a BESS of 2,500 MWh in FY 2026-27.
Serentica Renewables recently secured 600 MW in the Solar Energy Corporation of India's FDRE VII Assured Peak tender, which will be the largest single-location BESS installation by the company. With a total tendered capacity of 4,800 MWh, FDRE VII is among India's most advanced and technically complex renewable energy procurement frameworks. Under the agreement, Serentica will provide 2,400 MWh of daily peak power using a combined solar and BESS solution implemented behind the meter. The company also signed a power delivery agreement to support Vedanta Group company Cairn Oil & Gas's operations in Barmer, Rajasthan, delivering 25 MW of captive renewable hybrid power, meeting 20 per cent of the onshore oil producer's power demand. The company aims to deliver round-the-clock renewable energy at a 55-95 per cent capacity utilisation factor through a mix of solar, wind and energy storage.
According to Enersider Desk, Serentica Renewables aims to supply over 50 billion units of clean electricity annually, contributing to the avoidance of approximately 47 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. Beyond renewable energy infrastructure, the company is investing in community development initiatives across Rajasthan through its EdIndia and 'Vikas' programmes, committing more than ₹3.8 crore towards education, teacher training and local infrastructure development. CEO Akshay Hiranandani emphasized that the company remains committed to scaling investments in the state to support industrial decarbonisation and strengthen grid resilience, with the upcoming battery energy storage project in Bikaner strengthening the company's ability to provide firm, dispatchable renewable energy while supporting industrial decarbonisation and enhancing grid resilience.
