SEPC shares jumped 11% to touch an intraday high of ₹5.47 on Friday, October 9, following the formal signing of a significant contract with Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). According to reports from CNBC TV18, the EPC player signed an ₹855 crore agreement with SAIL for the Pellet Plant BOP, including civil and structural works at SAIL-IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur, West Bengal. The formal signing ceremony was completed on October 8, 2026, following a letter of acceptance received from SAIL-IISCO in August 2026. The stock ended the session 7.5% higher at ₹5.3, though it remains down nearly 50% so far this year. As per CNBC TV18, the contract signing formalizes one of the most significant industrial projects in SEPC's portfolio.
As reported by CNBC TV18, the contract package forms part of SAIL-IISCO's 4.08 MTPA crude steel expansion at Burnpur and will be executed on a divisible turnkey basis. The facilities are scheduled to be commissioned within 32 months from the effective date of September 3, 2026. With this new contract, SEPC's consolidated order book has crossed the ₹10,000 crore mark, representing over nine times the company's FY26 total income of ₹1,085.8 crore. According to the company's regulatory filing, of the total contract price of ₹951.60 crore, an input tax credit of ₹97.04 crore is to be passed on to SAIL, resulting in a net value of ₹854.57 crore. As of June 30, 2026, SEPC's consolidated orders on hand stood at ₹10,670 crore, comprising ₹5,270 crore in domestic and ₹5,400 crore in international projects. The company stated that the order book provides multi-year revenue visibility and strengthens its presence in large industrial engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects.
SEPC Managing Director Venkataramani Jaiganesh emphasized the significance of the contract signing, stating that "The signing of the Contract Agreement with SAIL-IISCO Steel Plant formalises one of the most significant industrial projects in our portfolio." As reported by CNBC TV18, he called the Burnpur expansion an "important part of India's steel capacity growth" and indicated that the company's focus would now be on execution and delivering the package within the stipulated timeline, while maintaining quality and safety standards. The company secured major relief on October 1, 2026, as the Madras High Court lifted the attachment on ₹154 crore of its trade receivables following a dispute settlement, representing a dramatic improvement in working capital availability.
As reported by The Economic Times, SEPC reported a consolidated net loss of ₹11 crore in the first quarter of FY27, compared to a net profit of ₹16.5 crore in the year-ago period. The company's revenue from operations stood at ₹274 crore during Q1 FY27, marking a 36% YoY jump from ₹202 crore in Q2 FY26. According to The Economic Times, SEPC's domestic EPC momentum has surged with back-to-back orders from SAIL-ISP Burnpur, including a ₹673.32 crore Coke Oven and Sinter Plant package in June 2026, and the current ₹854.57 crore Pellet Plant contract. The company's over ₹1,527 crore in active contracts at SAIL-ISP Burnpur alone positions it for substantial domestic revenue scaling. With the formalization of the SAIL Burnpur contract and resolution of legal constraints, SEPC is positioned for operational stability and financial recovery over the next two fiscal years. The strong billing visibility of domestic public sector projects could catalyze a turnaround in profitability, provided execution remains on schedule.
