State Bank of India has released a detailed notification for the engagement of 7,150 apprentice positions under the Apprentices Act, 1961. The recruitment notice has been issued by the Central Recruitment & Promotion Department, Corporate Centre, Mumbai, and is available for online applications from May 19 to June 8, 2026. According to the official announcement, the apprenticeship programme is designed to provide practical training opportunities for qualified candidates across states and union territories within India. The notification carries Advertisement No. CRPD/APPR/2026-27/07 and represents a significant opportunity for graduates seeking banking exposure in India's largest public sector bank. As per the latest reports, the recruitment process is being overseen by the Central Recruitment & Promotion Department at SBI's Corporate Centre in Mumbai, with candidates instructed to carefully follow all guidelines provided on the official recruitment portal.
The selected candidates will participate in apprenticeship training for a duration of one year under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Throughout this training period, apprentices will receive a monthly stipend of ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 depending on the location and role. However, SBI has made it clear that the apprenticeship programme does not assure permanent employment with the bank following the completion of training. This compensation structure provides financial support while allowing candidates to gain practical banking experience. The bank has clarified that apprentices will not be treated as regular SBI employees and will not receive additional allowances or employee benefits during their engagement period.
Interested candidates can apply online through the SBI careers website by following specific steps. The application process involves providing active mobile number and email for registration, filling personal details and educational qualifications, uploading required documents, completing payment procedure, and submitting the application form. The direct application link is available at sbi.bank.in/web/careers/current-openings. Applications must be submitted within the specified timeframe to be considered for the recruitment process. The online examination is tentatively scheduled for July 2026 and will be objective in nature covering General/Financial Awareness (25 marks), General English (25 marks), Quantitative Aptitude (25 marks), and Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude (25 marks) with negative marking of one-fourth mark for incorrect answers. Selected candidates will also need to appear for local language proficiency tests as part of the selection process, followed by written tests, language tests, and medical examinations. The examination schedule for the selection process will be announced separately at a later date by SBI.
SBI has announced state-wise apprentice training seats for different categories including SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and UR candidates. Uttar Pradesh has received 561 apprentice seats under this recruitment, with some important districts mentioned in the notification. Candidates can choose any three preferred districts while filling out the application form, though final allotment will depend on SBI's administrative requirements. According to the official announcement, candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in any field from a recognised university or possess an equivalent qualification accredited by the central government. The age of applicants should range from 20 to 28 years as of April 30, 2026, with age relaxation available for reserved categories in accordance with government regulations. Different states require candidates familiar with specific regional languages during recruitment - Telugu and Urdu remain preferred languages for Andhra Pradesh applicants, Tamil remains mandatory for candidates applying from Tamil Nadu, while Marathi, Bengali, Kannada and Malayalam are required across respective state vacancies.
SBI has established several important conditions for the recruitment process. Candidates can apply for only one state and can appear for the examination only once under this engagement project. Candidates who have already completed apprenticeship training earlier are not eligible, nor are those with one year or more job experience after graduation. No reservation is available for ex-servicemen in apprentice engagement, and SBI is not obligated to offer permanent employment after apprenticeship completion. The selection process includes mandatory NAPS portal registration before applying online, with examination centres available across India including major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata. Candidates must carry valid ID proof during examination and should note that requests for change of exam centre will not be entertained. General, OBC and EWS candidates must pay ₹300 during registrations online, while SC, ST and PwBD category applicants are exempted from application fees completely. Required documents include scanned color photograph (20-50 kb, JPEG/JPG format, 200x230 pixel, 200 dpi), scanned signature (10-20 kb, JPEG/JPG format, 140x60 pixel, 200 dpi), scanned left hand thumb impression (20-50 kb, JPEG/JPG format, 240x240 pixel, 200 dpi), and hand-written declaration (50-100 kb, JPEG/JPG format, 800x400 pixel, 200 dpi).
