Hotel ownership company Samhi Hotels Ltd is targeting a ₹3,000 crore topline revenue over the next few years, representing a significant expansion from its current ₹1,200 crore. According to reports from Mint, the company's chairman and managing director Ashish Jakhanwala stated this ambitious goal will be achieved through new inventory additions in key markets including Hyderabad and Bengaluru, along with steady growth at existing properties. The company expects to maintain 9-10% same-store growth as new inventory comes into play.
The expansion plans come after a remarkable financial turnaround for Samhi Hotels. As reported by Mint, the company reported a profit after tax of ₹85.5 crore in FY25, a significant improvement from a net loss of ₹338.6 crore in FY24. This recovery reflects stronger hotel demand, improved occupancy rates, and better operating performance across the portfolio. The company's domestic travel demand has remained resilient despite periodic disruptions, with the worst quarter showing 9-10% year-on-year growth in same-store revenues.
According to The Hindu BusinessLine, Samhi Hotels has completed its strategic investment in boutique hospitality platform Rare India, acquiring a 70% stake for ₹470 million through a two-tranche structure. The acquisition will be executed in two tranches, with Samhi initially acquiring a 55% partnership interest that will increase to 70% after the second tranche, along with an equivalent share in profits. The total consideration comprises ₹233.9 crore as primary capital infusion and ₹236.1 crore towards buying out stakes from existing partners. The company expects to sign definitive agreements by May 2026, with the first tranche closing on or before May 31, 2026.
As reported by The Hindu BusinessLine, alongside the acquisition, Samhi and Rare India have signed a memorandum of understanding with Marriott International to explore affiliating Rare's portfolio with Marriott's global distribution ecosystem. If finalized, Rare would receive exclusive rights to operate its hotels under the 'Outdoor Collection' brand by Marriott Bonvoy across India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka, enabling global distribution through Marriott's channels. Post the transaction, the company's broader platform will span around 100 hotels across owned and affiliated properties, expanding beyond traditional business hotels into experiential leisure hospitality. Rare India, founded in 2003 by Shobha Rudra, currently operates 67 hotels with 990 rooms across 15-plus states in India and has international presence in Nepal and Bhutan, focusing on heritage palaces, wildlife lodges, and boutique properties.
According to Mint reports, ratings agency Icra expects India's premium hotels to maintain strong performance in FY2026, with occupancy at 72-74%, average room rates rising to ₹8,200-8,500, and operating margins at 34-36%. The company's investment in Rare India is designed to help understand the rapidly growing leisure hospitality segment before committing large amounts of capital to building resorts. This strategic move aligns with global trends where smaller experience-led hotels are breaking price barriers, allowing Samhi to observe customer behavior and operating dynamics across boutique leisure properties. Samhi currently operates 31 hotels with 4,904 rooms across 13 cities, primarily targeting business and gateway markets under Marriott, IHG, and Hyatt brands.
