According to the company's exchange filing, the project involves the design, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of traction substations along with associated switching posts for a 2x25 KV AT traction feeding system in the Varanasi–Prayagraj section of the Varanasi division. The project has been awarded under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode and is specifically aimed at capacity upgradation of electric traction power supply installations. As per the latest disclosure, the project will support the 2×25 KV AT traction feeding system, aimed at strengthening electric traction power supply infrastructure and improving operational efficiency on the busy railway corridor.
The project is scheduled for completion within 730 days from the award date, approximately two years from the date of award. RVNL has clarified that the contract has been awarded by a domestic entity and that neither the promoter nor promoter group companies have any interest in the awarding entity. The company stated that the contract does not involve any related party transactions and there is no interest of promoters, promoter group, or related entities in the awarding authority. The project represents a substantial addition to RVNL's order book and demonstrates the company's continued involvement in railway electrification infrastructure development. The information was disclosed to stock exchanges under Regulation 30 on 20 May 2026, in compliance with SEBI disclosure norms.
The electrification upgrade is expected to enhance traction power reliability, train movement efficiency, and line capacity on the Varanasi–Prayagraj route. The project will also support smoother rail operations and improve overall network performance in the North Eastern Railway zone. According to RVNL, the contract is domestic in nature and falls under the company's normal course of business. The company clarified that the order is part of its regular business operations, reinforcing its position as a key player in rail modernisation, electrification, metro connectivity, bridge construction, and transportation infrastructure development under the Ministry of Railways.
Despite securing this major project, RVNL shares were trading at ₹269.90 as of 2.57 pm, still down 0.61% from the day's lows. According to market data, the stock has experienced significant declines with a 25% drop year-to-date and a 35% decline over the last 12 months. The project award comes at a time when the company's stock performance has been under pressure in the broader market context, though the latest disclosure may provide some positive momentum for the public sector enterprise.
