Persistent Systems shares have gained 8% in the past three weeks, reducing the decline since its fourth quarter results day on April 21 to 6%. According to reports from The Economic Times, the upswing is attributed to improving investor sentiment towards the technology sector amid a weaker rupee which supports realisations and AI-related initiatives by Indian tech vendors. The stock performance reflects growing optimism around artificial intelligence advancements and their potential impact on the technology sector, supported by broader market rotation trends in the global tech space.
The company expects to achieve a quarterly revenue level of $500 million by the end of March 2027 quarter, implying an annualised revenue of $2 billion. As reported by The Economic Times, this requires an average 3.5% quarterly revenue growth to meet guidance. The company reported $436 million in revenue for the March 2026 quarter and $1,654 million in FY26. However, revenue for the fourth quarter of the current fiscal year needs to grow by around 15%, which is lower than the 16.2% growth the company posted for the March 2026 quarter, indicating potential revenue deceleration in coming quarters.
According to The Economic Times, the company aims to invest in AI capabilities to ensure future business growth, which may keep the operating margin (EBIT margin) in a tight range. Vinit Teredesai, ED and CFO, stated that "We continue to invest in the AI technology. At the moment, growth is the priority, margins will follow." This strategic approach reflects the company's focus on maintaining market position through AI capabilities while managing near-term margin pressures, aligning with broader industry trends where chipmaker stocks including Micron Technology, Nvidia, and Broadcom are experiencing mixed performance amid AI optimism and inflation concerns.
Despite the positive stock performance, analysts have recalibrated earnings forecasts downwards, anticipating a slowdown in revenue growth as clients increasingly incorporate AI technologies. As reported by The Economic Times, Motilal Oswal Financial Services has reduced earnings estimates by 4-5%, factoring in a soft March quarter exit and continued reinvestments in AI platforms and consulting capabilities. The broking firm expects a more gradual margin expansion to 16.7-16.8% over FY27-28E. Analysts remain cautious about the impact of AI-driven solutions on traditional revenue generation models, with rising use of AI platforms expected to reduce development life cycles of products and solutions.
