PepsiCo India commissioned its ₹1,266 crore flavour manufacturing facility in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant expansion of the company's Indian operations. According to reports from PTI, this facility is part of PepsiCo's ₹5,700-crore investment commitment pipeline in India through 2030, which the company announced in May. The 22-acre facility represents PepsiCo India's second flavour manufacturing plant in the country and will manufacture beverage concentrates for its portfolio. As per PTI, this is among PepsiCo's largest manufacturing investments in the country, which is expected to serve as a catalyst for industrial development, job creation, and ancillary business growth across central India.
The Ujjain plant is expected to generate approximately 500 direct and indirect employment opportunities, as reported by PTI. The facility will strengthen the region's socio-economic development and advance PepsiCo's 'In India, For India' manufacturing strategy. Beyond manufacturing operations, the facility will support the development of a broader food and beverage manufacturing ecosystem in Madhya Pradesh by encouraging investments in supporting infrastructure and ancillary industries.
The plant operates on renewable electricity sourced from renewable generation sources and is designed with zero liquid discharge technology and water-efficiency measures, according to PTI. As part of PepsiCo operations, efforts will be directed towards replenishing 100 per cent of the water used at the facility. The facility is among PepsiCo India's largest manufacturing investments and is expected to serve as a catalyst for industrial development, job creation, and ancillary business growth across central India.
Dr Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, virtually inaugurated the facility along with key PepsiCo executives including Eugene Willemsen, CEO International Beverages, PepsiCo; Jagrut Kotecha, CEO India and South Asia, PepsiCo; and Even Norton, General Manager and Senior Vice-President, PepsiCo Global Concentrate Solutions, as reported by PTI. Willemsen noted that India continues to be a strategic growth market for PepsiCo globally, with the facility being the ninth globally and second in India for PepsiCo. The inauguration brings together the best of PepsiCo's global capabilities in manufacturing, technology, and sustainability, while strengthening the company's ability to serve consumers with iconic PepsiCo beverages.
PepsiCo India already has a growing presence in Madhya Pradesh through its collaborative farming initiative, engaging more than 2,000 farmers in the state for sustainable sourcing of chip-grade potatoes, according to PTI. The company's existing operations include manufacturing and direct employment on the premises. Kotecha emphasized that the facility's inauguration is a testimony to PepsiCo's strengthening 'Partnership of Progress' with India, reinforcing the company's long-term commitment to the country. The Ujjain plant will manufacture beverage concentrates for PepsiCo's iconic beverage portfolio, further expanding the company's manufacturing footprint in the region.
