NTPC delivered exceptional financial results for the second quarter, with consolidated net profit attributable to owners surging 38.7% year-on-year to ₹7,029.56 crore compared with ₹5,066.78 crore in the same period last year. According to the latest unaudited consolidated financial results, the power generation company demonstrated robust operational performance across key metrics during the quarter. The standout feature of the results is that net profit grew far faster than revenue, with profit expanding by nearly 38.7% while revenue rose only a little over 21%. This gap indicates that costs below the operating line, such as depreciation, finance costs and tax, grew more slowly than income, which lifted the bottom line. The company's total consolidated profit reached ₹7,350.79 crore for Q2 FY27, compared with ₹5,225.30 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, with ₹321.23 crore attributable to non-controlling interests.
The company's consolidated revenue from operations increased to ₹54,269.95 crore in Q2 FY27 from ₹44,784.05 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year, registering a growth of approximately 21.2%. As reported by the latest financial results, this revenue growth was supported by strong operational performance and favorable market conditions during the quarter. The EBITDA margin improved to 28.8% from 28.6% a year ago, with EBITDA rising to ₹15,627 crore in Q2 FY27 from ₹12,814 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. This EBITDA growth was broadly in line with revenue growth, showing that core operations kept pace with the increase in sales. Total income increased to ₹54,715.69 crore from ₹45,262.10 crore, while total expenses rose to ₹48,059.30 crore during the quarter under review from ₹40,218.03 crore.
In addition to the strong financial results, NTPC announced a dividend of ₹3 per share for the quarter. As reported by the latest unaudited consolidated financial results, the board of directors declared an interim dividend at 30% on the face value of ₹10 each for FY27, marking the first interim dividend announced by the PSU for the current financial year. The company has fixed November 6, 2026 as the record date to determine the eligibility of shareholders for the payout. The dividend payment will commence from November 25, 2026 within the prescribed statutory period, as per the latest board meeting held on October 31, 2026. For investors, the dividend adds to the appeal of a stock that is often held for its steady income profile, with NTPC being a majority government-owned company with a long record of returning cash to shareholders.
The company's diversified revenue streams showed significant growth during the quarter. Revenue from solar power stations increased to ₹1,138.23 crore in Q2 FY27 from ₹722.52 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, demonstrating the growing contribution of renewable energy to NTPC's portfolio. Additionally, revenue from operations included ₹3,172.14 crore from the sale of energy through trading (gross), compared with ₹2,655.43 crore in the year-ago period, highlighting the company's expanding role in electricity trading and market operations. These diversified revenue streams complement NTPC's core power generation business and provide additional income streams during the quarter.
The market responded positively to NTPC's strong quarterly results, with NTPC share price closing 2.23% higher at ₹316 per share on BSE on Friday, October 30. According to latest market data, the stock has delivered 6% returns in one week but has declined 1.86% in one month, 8.27% in three months and around 20.82% in six months. The PSU stock's performance reflects investor confidence in the company's operational efficiency and growth prospects, with the latest results reinforcing NTPC's position as a reliable dividend-paying stock in the power sector. The positive market response to the strong Q2 results demonstrates investor appreciation for the company's consistent financial performance and strategic diversification into renewable energy and trading operations.
