Power Grid Chairman Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra announced that the company's capital expenditure will exceed ₹40,000 crore invested in the previous financial year, with plans to accelerate spending on transmission infrastructure. As reported by Mint, Burra stated that "Last year, we had a capex of about ₹40,000 crore. One single company, spending purely on transmission. And this year should be much higher." The company initially projected capital expenditure of ₹37,000 crore for the current financial year in May, but Burra indicated potential upward revision following similar increases in previous fiscal years. This substantial investment reflects the growing requirement for transmission infrastructure to connect electricity generation centres with consumption hubs across the country.
The state-owned firm recorded a 0.8% decline in its consolidated net profit to ₹3,598 crore for the April to June quarter of the financial year 2026-27, compared to ₹3,631 crore in the same period a year earlier. As reported by market sources, the earnings were impacted by 2.6% flat Q1 revenue growth and higher tax expenses of 1.7%. The company's profits were also affected by movement in regulatory deferral account balances during the period. Despite the subdued earnings growth, the company's operational-level earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) advanced 4.2%, while margins improved by 125 basis points in the June quarter.

Burra highlighted the Green Energy Corridor-III programme involving investments of approximately ₹1.86 lakh crore as another significant opportunity for cable and wire manufacturers. He emphasized that India's transmission network was evolving beyond traditional roles, becoming critical infrastructure determining power-sector reliability and the ability of electricity generators to supply and sell power.
