NMDC Ltd, India's largest iron ore producer, achieved an 18% year-on-year increase in iron ore production to 5.04 million tonnes (MT) in October 2026, compared to 4.27 MT in the same month last year. According to the company's provisional operational update filed with stock exchanges on November 2, this strong performance contributed to cumulative production during April-October of FY27 rising 22.1% to 32.32 MT, against 26.47 MT in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Production increased across NMDC's key operational regions during October 2026. Chhattisgarh operations produced 3.36 MT of iron ore, up from 3.06 MT in October 2025, while Karnataka production rose to 1.68 MT from 1.21 MT year-on-year. During April-October 2026, cumulative production in Chhattisgarh increased to 22.28 MT from 17.84 MT, with cumulative sales rising to 18.32 MT from 17.90 MT. In Karnataka, cumulative production increased to 10.04 MT from 8.63 MT, though cumulative sales declined to 7.35 MT from 8.22 MT.
Despite the production gains, NMDC faced challenges in converting output to sales during October 2026. Sales fell 11.57% to 3.44 MT from 3.89 MT in the same month last year, with the company attributing this to temporary disruptions to the Kottavalasa-Kirandul railway line. However, cumulative sales for April-October 2026 edged lower by just 1.72% to 25.67 MT from 26.12 MT in the corresponding period. NMDC shares closed at ₹68.42 on the NSE on November 2, up ₹1.08 or 1.60%, with the stock having a 52-week high of ₹97.49 and a 52-week low of ₹65.15.
