
Standalone health insurer Niva Bupa Health Insurance Company Ltd reported a 67% surge in net profit to ₹345 crore during the March quarter, compared to ₹206 crore earned in the same period of 2024-25. According to reports from The Economic Times, the company's total income during the quarter rose to ₹2,078 crore against ₹1,565 crore in the year-ago period, while total expenses grew to ₹1,795 crore from ₹1,470 crore in the corresponding period. The company also achieved an 80% year-on-year growth in FY26 PAT to ₹366 crore, marking strong annual performance supported by scale-led efficiencies and improved operating performance.
The company's gross written premium increased to ₹2,880 crore during the quarter under review compared to ₹2,079 crore in the same period a year ago, as reported by CNBC TV18. Net premiums written rose 37.7% to ₹2,302 crore from ₹1,672 crore in the same period last year. For the full financial year FY26, gross written premiums rose 27% year-on-year to ₹8,586 crore and ₹9,433 crore. The solvency ratio declined to 2.49 as of March 31, 2026 from 3.03 at the end of the fourth quarter of the previous fiscal year, though it remained stable on a quarter-on-quarter basis.
Underwriting profit showed significant improvement, rising to ₹177 crore from ₹58 crore a year earlier, while operating profit increased to ₹283 crore from ₹95 crore. The combined insurance service ratio (CISR) improved to 101.4% for FY26, a 160 basis point improvement over the previous year, with Q4FY26 CISR standing at 97.4%, indicating progress towards underwriting profitability. The company reported a claim settlement ratio of 94.4% for FY26, an improvement of 205 basis points over the previous year, reflecting its focus on customer service and claims experience.
According to CNBC TV18, the company continued to strengthen its position in the retail health segment, with market share improving to 10.1% at the close of FY26, representing a 76 basis points increase over FY25. The net promoter score rose to +60 at the end of FY26 from +55 in FY25, indicating improved customer satisfaction. The distribution mix for FY26 included individual agencies at 30.2% of GWP, brokers at 29.5%, corporate agency banks at 19.5%, other corporate agencies at 10.4%, and direct business at 9.7%.
The board has approved the elevation of Ankur Kharbanda (currently designated & serving as executive director and chief business officer) to the position of executive director and deputy chief executive officer effective May 8, based on the recommendation of the nomination and remuneration committee. MD and CEO Krishnan Ramachandran attributed the market share gains and improved metrics to customer trust and focus on delivering superior health insurance experiences. Shares of Niva Bupa Health Insurance Company Ltd ended at ₹81.27, up by ₹1.22, or 1.52% on the BSE on May 8, reflecting positive market sentiment towards the company's strong quarterly performance.
