The Moopen family has significantly increased their shareholding in Aster DM Quality Care through a substantial stake purchase. According to reports from ETHealthworld, Business Standard, Moneycontrol, CNBC TV18, and The Hindu BusinessLine, the family acquired 46.09 lakh shares on September 2, 2026, at a price of ₹760 per share. The total consideration for this acquisition amounts to approximately ₹350.34 crore. The shares were acquired from TPG-backed Centella Mauritius Holdings Limited, representing approximately 0.57% of the company's paid-up equity share capital. This transaction represents a strategic move by Dr. Azad Moopen's Union Holdings Ltd. (Mauritius) to strengthen their position in the healthcare major, coming barely two months after the merger of Aster DM Healthcare and Quality Care India became effective. The company stated that the transaction reflects the promoter family's confidence in the merged entity's ability to create sustainable long-term value and capitalise on growth opportunities in India's healthcare sector.
With this recent purchase, the Moopen family's shareholding in Aster DM Quality Care has increased to approximately 24.58%. As reported by ETHealthworld, Business Standard, Moneycontrol, CNBC TV18, and The Hindu BusinessLine, this acquisition represents a significant strengthening of the promoter family's ownership interest in the Dr. Moopen-led healthcare company. The transaction demonstrates the family's commitment to maintaining their substantial stake in the integrated healthcare platform, with the Moopen family's Union Holdings Ltd. (Mauritius) serving as the acquiring entity. The substantial investment signals confidence in the healthcare sector's long-term value and reflects the family's belief in the company's ability to deliver sustainable long-term value for shareholders. The company didn't provide details on whether the family intends to increase their stake further.
The stake purchase comes shortly after TPG substantially reduced its exposure to the healthcare company through strategic divestments. According to The Hindu BusinessLine, in August, TPG, through Centella Mauritius Holdings, sold a 6.66% stake in Aster DM Quality Care for ₹4,451 crore through open-market transactions, reducing Centella's stake from 9.90% to 3.24%. The latest transaction further reduces Centella's holding, although it remains a shareholder in the company. This strategic exit by TPG, combined with the Moopen family's increased ownership, represents a significant shift in the ownership structure of the merged healthcare entity as it enters its next phase of expansion.
The Aster DM Quality Care reported robust financial performance following the merger completion, with the enlarged platform demonstrating strong operational momentum. According to Business Standard, on a combined pro-forma basis, Aster DM Quality Care reported revenue of ₹2,597 crore in the April-June quarter of FY27, up 20% year-on-year. Operating earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) increased 30% to ₹576 crore, while the operating Ebitda margin expanded 170 basis points to 22.2%. The erstwhile Aster DM Healthcare's revenue grew 22% to ₹1,311 crore, while Quality Care's revenue rose 19% to ₹1,287 crore. Quality Care's operating Ebitda increased 32% to ₹299 crore, with its margin improving to 23.2% from 21.1% a year earlier. However, Aster DM Healthcare's June-quarter profit was hit by costs related to the Quality Care merger, with consolidated net profit falling 81.2% to ₹16.1 crore despite revenue growth. The company booked ₹114.38 crore of exceptional expenses during the quarter, largely comprising professional fees and other costs related to the merger.
The acquisition strengthens the promoter family's ownership interest in the merged healthcare platform Aster DM Quality Care Limited, which began operations as a combined entity on July 1 following completion of the merger. As reported by ETHealthworld, Business Standard, Moneycontrol, CNBC TV18, and The Hindu BusinessLine, the merged entity brings together four leading healthcare brands: Aster DM, CARE Hospitals, Evercare, and KIMSHEALTH. The merged entity operates a network of 39 hospitals across 28 cities with over 10,890 beds, delivering comprehensive healthcare services across primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary care. The merger was aimed at creating a scaled healthcare platform with a wider geographic footprint and greater capacity to expand beyond the major metropolitan markets. The company has identified tier-II and tier-III cities as key markets for bringing specialised and advanced healthcare closer to patients. The enlarged platform is also pursuing capacity expansion, with the merged entity having outlined plans to reach about 13,300 beds by FY27, with roughly 3,100 beds planned to be added through a combination of brownfield and greenfield projects. This strategic consolidation under the Moopen family's control is expected to accelerate strategic synergies across the integrated healthcare platform, with the combination giving the group greater scale and geographic diversification.
