
According to NSE data, L&T purchased 2,08,75,000 units of Mumbai-based Nxt-Infra Trust, a SEBI-registered Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT), for ₹199 crore. The transaction was executed on Tuesday at an average price of ₹95.33 per unit. As reported by market sources, this strategic investment demonstrates L&T's continued expansion in the infrastructure sector through InvIT acquisitions. The Nxt-Infra Trust is supported by Actis Highway Infra Ltd, which invests worldwide across energy infrastructure, long-life infrastructure, digital infrastructure, and real estate.
Following the transaction announcement, shares of Nxt-Infra Trust on Wednesday were trading 1.03% higher at ₹98 per unit on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). According to market data, A K Capital Finance also sold over 2.10 crore units of Nxt-Infra Trust at the same price, bringing the total deal value to ₹200.67 crore. The transaction involved multiple buyers, though details of other participants could not be identified on the exchange. The substantial rise in share price following the infrastructure powerhouse's acquisition reflects positive market sentiment towards the strategic move.
As of August 19, 2026, L&T and Nxt-Infra Trust have a total market capitalisation of ₹5.55 lakh crore and ₹5,147.39 crore respectively, according to NSE data. L&T shares were trading at ₹4,040.4 per share on NSE, falling 0.59% after opening at ₹4,064 apiece. The stock had hit an intraday low of ₹4,025 per share during Wednesday's trading session.
According to reports, L&T this week secured an ultra-mega order in the Middle East worth over ₹15,000 crore. The company's subsidiary L&T Energy Hydrocarbon Offshore (LTEH Offshore) secured this order from a Middle East client, which involves the development of multiple offshore facilities. Additionally, L&T Technology Services (LTTS), a listed subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, secured a $75 million+ global contract to deploy Engineering Intelligence across product development, software and digital operations. The client identity cannot be disclosed as per the agreement, but the contract encompasses product engineering, software development, testing, validation, and sustenance engineering.
From the beginning of the year, L&T shares have declined 2%, while over a month's time, the stock has climbed 5%, according to market data. For a six-month period, the stock has lost 6%. The contrasting performance between L&T's shares and Nxt-Infra Trust's positive reaction to the investment announcement highlights the market's response to infrastructure sector developments.
