
Kirloskar Oil Engines (KOEL) and DEUTZ AG have entered into a strategic co-operation agreement for the 1.6-litre engine platform, enhancing global market reach and product offerings in the compact engine segment. According to reports from Business Standard, this collaboration will enable KOEL to expand its compact engine solutions into markets across Europe and North America, complementing international drive portfolios in the under-2-litre power segment. The partnership, announced on September 2, 2026, leverages KOEL's manufacturing expertise and DEUTZ's international sales and service network, focusing on engines with power output ranging from 18 to 41.2 kW, compliant with EU Stage V and US EPA/CARB Tier 4 standards.
The new drive platform will be offered as naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions of the R550 platform. As reported by Business Standard, the water-cooled three-cylinder series features electronic direct injection and a high-pressure common-rail system, covering a power range from 18 to 41.2 kW. The robust engine platform is designed for efficient combustion, compact dimensions, and flexible integration across various machine concepts, including construction, material handling, and industrial applications.
