KEC International shares declined 4.38% in intraday trading on Tuesday following the announcement of weak Q1 FY27 results. The stock movement reflects investor concerns about the company's operational performance amid ongoing geopolitical challenges. The stock is currently trading at ₹455 on NSE, down from its previous close of ₹475.85, with the company maintaining a market capitalisation of ₹12,112 crore as of August 10, 2026. Despite the market reaction, the company maintains a price-to-earnings multiple of 22.88 times, indicating that while near-term challenges persist, investors remain cautiously optimistic about the company's long-term prospects.
KEC International reported a significant decline in financial performance for Q1 FY27. According to the latest financial results, consolidated net profit fell 41.7% year-on-year to ₹72.6 crore from ₹124.6 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue remained largely unchanged at ₹5,024 crore, compared with ₹5,023 crore a year ago, indicating the profit decline was primarily driven by margin compression rather than volume contraction. EBITDA declined 16.9% year-on-year to ₹291 crore from ₹350 crore in Q1 FY26, while EBITDA margin contracted to 5.8% from 7% in the corresponding quarter last year. The company's profit before tax stood at ₹90 crore, down 43% from ₹159 crore in Q1 FY26. Recent market developments show the stock closed at ₹475.50, down ₹3.70 or 0.77% in the previous trading session, with the company maintaining a market capitalisation of ₹12,657.81 crore.
The company's operational metrics showed significant deterioration during the quarter. EBITDA declined 17% year-on-year to ₹291 crore from ₹350.1 crore in the year-ago quarter, while EBITDA margin contracted by 120 basis points to 5.8%. KEC International attributed the weaker performance to multiple operational challenges including the West Asia crisis, labour shortages and slower execution in water projects. The company's latest financial statements reveal operating profit margin of 5.79% for the quarter ended June 2026, compared to 6.97% in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Recent trading data shows the stock is trading 49.31% below its 52-week high of ₹938.00 and 3.3% above its 52-week low of ₹460.30, reflecting investor concerns about the quarterly performance.
Despite operational challenges, KEC International demonstrated robust business development capabilities during the quarter. According to the company's statement, year-to-date order intake has exceeded ₹6,303 crore across its Transmission & Distribution, Civil, Renewables, Cables & Conductors and Transportation businesses. The company's order book and L1 position stood at over ₹40,000 crore as on June 30, 2026, with more than 60% coming from the T&D business. Recent developments show the company securing new orders worth ₹1,063 crore earlier this month across various businesses, including a significant order for a high-rise residential project involving development of 24 lakh sq ft of residential buildings from the Civil business. The Transmission & Distribution business secured orders for a 400 kV transmission line in Africa and supply of towers, hardware and poles in the Americas, while the Renewables business bagged a 50+ MW wind EPC project from an existing private developer in Western India.
Despite operational headwinds, KEC International demonstrated improved financial management during the quarter. Net debt, including Acceptances, has been reduced by more than ₹150 crore to ₹6,568 crore as on June 30, 2026, compared to March 31, 2026. Net working capital has been reduced to 134 days as on June 30, 2026, compared to 137 days as on March 31, 2026. Managing Director and CEO Vimal Kejriwal expressed optimism about the company's prospects, stating that the near-term challenges are largely transitory with supply chains gradually normalising and labour availability improving. The company maintains a robust tender pipeline exceeding ₹2 lakh crore and strong opportunities across both domestic and international markets, with management confident of delivering stronger execution and improved financial performance in coming quarters.
