Kaynes Technology shares extended their decline, falling another 5% on Friday after experiencing a dramatic 20% crash over two trading sessions following disappointing Q4FY26 results. The stock hit an intraday low of ₹3,184.20 on the NSE, continuing the downward trajectory from the previous session's 20% plunge. The latest decline came after the company reported weaker-than-expected Q4FY26 earnings, with consolidated net profit declining 22% year-on-year to ₹91 crore compared with ₹116 crore in the same period last year. The profit decline was particularly concerning as it came despite the company's revenue growth, highlighting margin pressures and execution challenges that have left many investors puzzled and concerned about the company's operational efficiency and future prospects.
Despite the profit decline, Kaynes Technology continued to report healthy revenue growth during Q4FY26, though it fell short of internal expectations. Revenue from operations increased 26% year-on-year to ₹1,243 crore from ₹984 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, but this figure came in about 27% below its internal target of ₹1,700 crore for the quarter. Total income for the quarter also rose 28% to ₹1,284 crore from ₹1,005 crore in Q4FY25. However, operating profitability weakened significantly as EBITDA margin declined 150 basis points year-on-year to 15.6%, while PAT margin contracted sharply by 450 basis points to 7.3%. The significant profit drop amidst revenue growth has raised red flags among investors, with the disconnect between revenue and profit indicating potential inefficiencies or increased costs that are outpacing sales growth.
Multiple brokerages responded to the earnings miss with significant downgrades, citing execution concerns and margin pressures. JP Morgan, Nuvama, and CLSA cut their target prices for the stock, with Nuvama noting that at current market price, Kaynes trades at 70x/53x/35x FY27/FY28/FY29 estimated earnings, a valuation that leaves little room for continued execution misses. JM Financial cut FY27–29E EPS by 0–5% and reduced the target P/E for the EMS business to 40x from 45x, citing sustained stress on the balance sheet. Motilal Oswal acknowledged the execution challenges while noting that management emphasized underlying industry demand and order book quality remain intact, with guidance for FY27 growth at nearly twice the industry growth rate. Market experts generally believe that the recent performance serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of sustainable growth, with analysts particularly worried about the execution challenges and potential for further declines if these issues are not addressed promptly.
The decline in margins came amid a sharp rise in expenses, with total expenses during the quarter increasing 33% year-on-year to ₹1,144 crore compared with ₹863 crore in the same quarter last year. The company's cost of materials consumed jumped 44% year-on-year to ₹921 crore from ₹638 crore, indicating higher production activity and execution scale. The brokerages expressed concerns about persistently high working capital and weak execution trends, with JP Morgan noting that despite raising more than ₹3,000 crore through two institutional share sales, the company may still require additional debt because of working capital concerns. The profit decline is attributed to rising costs that outpaced revenue growth, leading to margin pressure and execution challenges that have left investors questioning the company's operational efficiency and future prospects.
