Jupiter Wagons has secured a significant order from GATX India Private Limited, a subsidiary of GATX Corporation, USA, further strengthening the company's presence in India's private wagon leasing ecosystem. According to latest reports, the company has signed a ₹98 crore (inclusive of applicable tax) Wagon Purchase Agreement with GATX India for the manufacture and supply of BFNS22.9 rakes. This represents an increase from the previously reported ₹97.66 crore contract value.
The order adds to Jupiter Wagons' growing footprint with global wagon leasing players and reflects the company's continued alignment with the Indian Railways' Wagon Leasing Scheme. As reported by Business Standard, this scheme enables private players such as GATX to lease and operate rolling stock on the Indian Railways network, positioning Jupiter Wagons strategically in the private wagon leasing sector.
The ₹98 crore contract represents a substantial order for Jupiter Wagons, demonstrating strong demand from international leasing companies for Indian-manufactured railway equipment. According to the latest reports, the agreement includes applicable tax provisions, indicating the comprehensive nature of the commercial arrangement between the two companies.
Despite the significant contract win, Jupiter Wagons shares remained relatively flat following the announcement. As per latest market data, the stock was trading at ₹243.20 on Tuesday, down 0.67% from its previous close of ₹244.85, after hitting a low of ₹242.30 during the session. This muted market reaction suggests investor expectations may already have factored in the contract announcement.
