Jain Global is expanding its Hong Kong office space by 50% in early 2027 as part of its preparation for the upcoming Millennium Management partnership. According to reports from Business Standard, the city currently houses 60% of the firm's roughly 75 regional employees, and the additional space will accommodate 25 more staff members. The firm has been actively recruiting experienced portfolio managers, including Jordan Miyakawa from IMC Trading and HSBC Holdings Plc's Matthieu Millot, while also hiring Ian Wong from Balyasny Asset Management as an industrials-focused portfolio manager.
After amassing about $6 billion in assets within two years from its inception, Jain Global announced in April a deal to return external capital in its $5.3 billion multi-strategy business. As reported by Business Standard, the firm will oversee money exclusively for Izzy Englander's $92 billion Millennium, where Jain previously served as co-chief investment officer. The partnership structure allows Millennium to expand capital allocation as Jain Global's investment capacity grows, similar to the Millennium-WorldQuant partnership model. Jain Global has targeted 10% to 15% of its global capital allocation to Asia, with the regional business employing approximately 15 portfolio managers across fundamental equities, equity arbitrage, quantitative, fixed income, credit and commodities trading.
Despite its rapid asset growth, Jain Global's financial performance has faced challenges. According to Business Standard, the firm made approximately $750 million in trading profits globally in 2025, but investors only received about 25% of this amount after accounting for fees and expenses. This translated to a 3.7% return in a year when peers delivered double-digit gains to clients. Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC Pte, one of Jain Global's earliest backers, redeemed $250 million from the New York-based hedge fund firm earlier this year. The firm's multi-strategy fund was up 3.9% this year through July.
Jain Global's Asia operations span more than 35 countries and markets, with the firm trading both precious and base metals while building power trading businesses in Australia and Japan. As reported by Business Standard, the firm's macro trading involves teams using both systematic and discretionary approaches. The partnership with Millennium is expected to provide a stable source of capital, allowing Jain Global executives to focus on faster expansion without managing external investor relationships. The firm operates as a multi-strategy, multi-manager hedge fund, a segment that has more than tripled its combined assets since 2017, according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc.
