Hyundai Motor India Ltd announced its partnership with Jio-bp to integrate their respective EV charging networks and enhance charging accessibility for electric vehicle users across India. According to reports from Business Standard, Jio-bp operates as the brand of Reliance BP Mobility Ltd, a joint venture between Reliance Industries and bp, positioning itself as a leading provider of EV charging services and solutions in the Indian market. The collaboration aims to strengthen India's EV ecosystem by enhancing charging accessibility and convenience for customers through integrated platforms.
Through this collaboration, EV customers will be able to discover, access and use Jio-bp pulse charging stations using the myHyundai app, as reported by Business Standard. The partnership will add over 7,000 Jio-bp Pulse charging points across more than 300 cities to Hyundai's existing network, expanding HMIL's EV charging ecosystem to provide access to over 37,000 charging points across India. The platform is not restricted to Hyundai vehicles, with EV owners across brands able to use available charging points through the app, making public charging easier to find and access through a single digital platform. Additionally, HMIL's high-capacity chargers will be gradually integrated into the Jio-bp pulse charge pro app, enhancing the overall charging infrastructure for electric vehicle owners.
Jio-bp's charging network includes DC fast chargers ranging from 60 kW to 480 kW, with the company reporting a network uptime of 96 per cent, according to the official press release. Many of these charging stations are strategically located along major national highways, enabling smoother long-distance travel. As part of the collaboration, Hyundai Motor India's own DC fast-charging network will also gradually become available on the Jio-bp pulse charge pro app, including its 183 operational charging stations as well as future installations. The company plans to significantly expand its proprietary fast-charging infrastructure, taking the network from 183 stations currently to 600 stations by 2030, demonstrating the company's commitment to expanding its charging infrastructure.
Hyun Sup Lee, Executive Director and Function Head, Corporate Planning at HMIL, emphasized that this partnership addresses the growing importance of accessible and reliable charging infrastructure as EV adoption expands in India. Lee noted that through the integration of charging networks, they are simplifying the charging journey and enabling Hyundai EV owners to access a wider network of reliable charging solutions. Lee highlighted a significant shift in customer concerns from "range anxiety to charging anxiety" as the company's EV portfolio expands. Jio-bp Chairman Sarthak Behuria highlighted that India's shift to electric mobility depends on building trust at scale, with this partnership reflecting shared conviction in making clean mobility accessible for every Indian. Jio-bp CEO Akshay Wadhwa addressed the reliability aspect, noting that range anxiety for EV owners extends beyond charger availability to knowing whether the next charger will be operational, as reported by Business Standard.
The partnership comes as India's EV market moves beyond the initial concern over vehicle range towards a broader question of charging access. By combining two networks and bringing them closer to a single digital interface, Hyundai and Jio-bp are looking to make that charging journey a little less of a roadblock. The companies plan to explore opportunities to introduce customer-centric offers in the future, further enhancing the ownership experience for EV customers across India. Lee confirmed that HMIL and Jio-bp pulse will explore additional opportunities to introduce customer-centric offers in the future, further enhancing the ownership experience for EV customers. The collaboration comes as automakers and charging operators expand public charging infrastructure amid growing adoption of electric vehicles in India, with availability and reliability of public chargers remaining key considerations for buyers.
