Hi-Tech Pipes shares fell as much as 6.9% to ₹78 on the NSE on Wednesday (August 12) following the company's Q1FY27 results announcement. The stock decline reflects investor concerns over the mixed quarterly performance, with strong revenue growth offset by profitability pressures. According to CNBC TV18, the market reaction highlights investor focus on the company's ability to convert robust top-line growth into sustainable bottom-line performance amid rising operational costs.
Hi-Tech Pipes delivered mixed results for the June quarter of financial year 2027, with profit declining 4.2% year-on-year to ₹20.04 crore compared with ₹20.92 crore in the same period last year. According to latest reports, the company's consolidated revenue from operations surged 78.5% YoY to ₹1,412.8 crore in Q1FY27, up from ₹791.36 crore in Q1FY26. This strong revenue growth was accompanied by EBITDA rising 20.3% annually to ₹49.38 crore from ₹41.03 crore in the year-ago quarter, with EBITDA margin contracting to 3.5% from 5.2% in Q1FY26. The margin compression reflects the company's inability to fully offset rising input costs despite operational efficiency gains.
Despite the robust revenue growth, Hi-Tech Pipes faced significant margin compression during the quarter. Total expenses increased 81.5% year-on-year to ₹1,386.9 crore, led by a sharp increase in purchases of stock-in-trade and higher finance costs. Purchases of stock-in-trade surged to ₹280.5 crore from ₹35.2 crore a year earlier, while finance costs doubled to ₹15.67 crore from ₹7.82 crore. As reported by CNBC TV18, this expense growth outpaced revenue scaling, putting pressure on profitability. However, the company demonstrated operational efficiency with EBITDA margin expansion of 40 basis points to 3.5% from 3.1% in the previous year, highlighting effective cost control at the operational level.
The company reported strong operational performance with sales volume increasing 26% year-on-year to 1,56,136 metric tonnes (MT) in Q1FY27, compared with 1,24,027 MT in Q1FY26. On a sequential basis, sales volumes increased 6% from 1,47,127 MT in Q4FY26. According to CNBC TV18, the volume growth was supported by the company's diversified product portfolio, expanded manufacturing capacity and strong customer relationships, with demand remaining firm across the infrastructure, construction and engineering sectors. The sustained demand across key end-user industries, along with capacity expansion, supported the company's sales performance during the quarter.
