
Grasim Industries announced its financial results for the first quarter of financial year 2026-27 (Q1 FY27) on Wednesday, 12 August. According to an exchange filing dated 29 July, the company's board met to consider and approve the unaudited standalone and consolidated financial results for the quarter ended 30 June 2026. The company released its financial results during market hours, with the stock trading 0.18% lower at ₹3,304 following the earnings announcement. However, as of 11:34 AM on Thursday, the stock was trading 1.76% lower at ₹3,249.80, with intraday lows reaching ₹3,201 as investors reacted to margin outlook concerns.
Grasim Industries delivered exceptional standalone results for Q1 FY27, with consolidated net profit surging 38.8% to ₹3,846.28 crore compared with ₹2,770.63 crore in the year-ago quarter. Revenue from operations rose 21.43% to ₹48,716.20 crore from the previous year, driven by strong all-round performance across its diversified business portfolio. EBITDA reached a record high of ₹8,077 crore, up 26% year-on-year, supported by revenue-led growth and cost efficiencies across businesses. The company recorded its highest-ever consolidated EBITDA, with EBITDA margin improving to 16% from 15% a year ago, supported by stronger operating performance across businesses and cost efficiencies. However, total expenses were 19.62% higher in the June quarter to ₹43,851.12 crore, reflecting the company's continued investment in growth initiatives.
The building materials portfolio remained a key contributor to the quarter's strong performance, with revenue growing 21.5% to ₹28,835.40 crore and EBITDA increasing significantly. According to the latest results, the segment includes cement, paints and B2B e-commerce businesses. UltraTech's total sales volume stood at 41.3 million tonnes, up 12.2% year-on-year, with ready-mix concrete sales volumes rising 18% YoY. Birla Opus continued to strengthen its third-largest position in India's organised decorative paints industry, with revenue market share expanding by 30 basis points quarter-on-quarter in Q1 FY27. The business responded to sharp industry-wide input cost increases with calibrated price revisions, with the overall impact of price hikes standing at 8.8% in Q1 FY27. Birla Pivot, a B2B e-commerce business for building materials products, maintained an annualised revenue run-rate above ₹10,000 crore despite moderating QoQ revenue amid elevated market volatility.
The cellulosic fibres business saw revenue rise 12% to ₹4,530.25 crore, supported by higher global prices, rupee depreciation and favourable product mix. EBITDA was up nearly two times on a year-on-year basis at ₹632 crore, supported by low base in Q1 FY26 and higher contribution from Speciality Fibres. Revenue from the Chemicals segment was ₹2,639.92 crore, up 10.43% in the June quarter. Revenue from the financial services segment, Aditya Birla Capital, was up 28.1% to ₹12,154.67 crore, with the total lending portfolio (NBFC + HFC) standing at ₹2,19,289 crore, up 32% YoY. The company noted that the government's ambitious Viksit Bharat initiative is acting as a catalyst, spurring demand across core industries and creating a robust environment for growth.
Despite strong Q1 performance, MOFSL has reduced its FY28 EBITDA estimate by 4% and EPS estimate by 7%, citing margin outlook concerns. However, MOFSL maintains a 'Buy' rating with a target price of ₹3,800, noting that FY27 earnings are expected to be better than earlier estimated, mainly because the company performed strongly in Q1. The brokerage has increased its FY27 EBITDA estimate by 8% and EPS estimate by 4%. Grasim Industries shares have gained around 3% in a week and a month, and are overall up 16% in 2026 so far. In the longer term, Grasim Industries shares have delivered positive returns of 21% in one year, 81% in three years and 122% in five years. The company has a market capitalisation of more than ₹2.25 lakh crore and noted that with its resilient balance sheet and strategic investments, it is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping and participating in India's unfolding growth story.
