Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) inaugurated its 4th manufacturing unit at Malanpur, Madhya Pradesh, on 26 August 2026. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and GCPL Executive Chairperson Nisaba Godrej. This expansion represents a significant milestone in Madhya Pradesh's industrial growth story and reinforces the state's position as a preferred destination for large scale manufacturing investment.
The new manufacturing unit comes with an investment of ₹480 crore, as reported by ETManufacturing. GCPL MD and CEO Aasif Malbari confirmed this investment figure, taking the company's cumulative investment in Malanpur to over ₹850 crore over three decades. The site spans a total of 65 acres with the expanded facility increasing GCPL's total soap manufacturing capacity to over 2 lakh metric tonnes per annum. The facility is designed to comply with Indian Green Building Council guidelines, reflecting GCPL's stated sustainability commitments. GCPL expects the expansion to generate a turnover of ₹3,800 crore once fully operational, though no specific timeline for reaching full capacity was disclosed.
The Malanpur facility, located in the Industrial Area, Malanpur, District Bhind, has evolved into a critical pillar of GCPL's manufacturing ecosystem over the past 30 years, according to ETManufacturing. The site currently produces soaps, hair colours, household insecticides and more, demonstrating its diversified manufacturing capabilities across personal care and home care segments. The expanded facility will manufacture soaps including Godrej No.1 and Cinthol, alongside GoodKnight, Godrej Aer, and Godrej Expert Hair Colour. MD and CEO Aasif Malbari noted that the new unit features high-speed, automated production lines and digitised operations designed to significantly upgrade overall production efficiency. The facility's production lines are capable of running at nearly three times the speed of existing lines, with lines capable of producing up to 4,000 soap bars every minute.
The expansion underscores Madhya Pradesh's emergence as a preferred hub for large-scale manufacturing and highlights GCPL's strategy of scaling its FMCG operations while aligning with sustainability and self-reliance goals. State leaders emphasized the facility's role in employment generation, industrial development and public health initiatives, noting Malanpur's status as Asia's largest integrated soap manufacturing facility and the growing participation of women in its workforce. Nisaba Godrej, Executive Chairperson of GCPL, highlighted the facility's role in creating opportunities for women in manufacturing, noting that the company's 35-year partnership with Madhya Pradesh has consistently contributed to employment generation, industrial development and economic growth in the state. The move reinforces GCPL's long-standing commitment to the region, with the company having operated a large manufacturing base in Malanpur since 1991, positioning the site as a key pillar in its domestic production and supply network.
