Godrej Consumer Products (GCPL) inaugurated the first phase of its new manufacturing facility in Indonesia's Kendal Special Economic Zone on Tuesday. According to reports from CNBC TV18, the facility represents an IDR 500 billion (around ₹250 crore) investment in the country, marking a significant expansion of the company's Indonesian operations. The inauguration ceremony was attended by key dignitaries including the Ambassador of India to Indonesia, the Deputy Governor of Central Java, the Regent of Kendal, and senior representatives from Indonesia's Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry/BKPM. As per The Economic Times, the facility is part of an approximately ₹250 crore investment in Kendal to strengthen the company's manufacturing footprint in the country.
The facility, operated by GCPL's Indonesian subsidiary Godrej Consumer Products Indonesia (GCPI), has been built on 2.5 hectares of the company's 5.5-hectare site in Kendal. As reported by CNBC TV18, the first phase will manufacture household insecticides for the Indonesian market and support exports. The investment will increase GCPL's capacity across its home and personal care categories in Indonesia by around 15%, with the company's existing Indonesian operations currently running at 75-80% capacity utilisation. According to The Economic Times, the facility is dedicated to household insecticides, strengthening the company's manufacturing capabilities to serve the Indonesian market and support exports. Aasif Malbari, Managing Director and CEO of GCPL, stated that the IDR 500 billion investment will expand home and personal care categories capacity by approximately 15%, positioning the company to meet rising regional demand and scale.
The Kendal facility was built in just over a year and has been designed with technology and data integrated into its operations from the start. According to CNBC TV18, this will provide greater visibility across the plant and help improve the speed and efficiency of operations. Rajesh Sethuraman, Business Head, Indonesia & Global Head, Business Transformation and Digital at GCPL, emphasised the efficiency brought by this integration, noting that "the facility gives us better visibility and enables us to operate more effectively and at speed, bringing us closer to real demand and helping us make faster decisions." The company has been present in Indonesia since 2010, and its business in the country has grown 4.5 times since then. As per The Economic Times, the built-in technology and data embedded into the operations from the start creates greater visibility and enables GCPI to operate more effectively and at speed.
Brands including HIT, Stella, Mitu and NYU now reach around one in four Indonesian households, as reported by CNBC TV18. Aasif Malbari, Managing Director and CEO of GCPL, stated that Indonesia remains an important market for the company and that the Kendal investment will provide a platform to expand exports across the region. The facility will also focus on developing local capabilities and creating more inclusive employment opportunities. According to The Economic Times, the facility represents a critical step in the company's growth strategy in Indonesia. In its Q2 business update, the FMCG firm had said its Indonesia business continues to build on the recovery witnessed over recent quarters, with the company expecting the business to deliver high teens revenue growth, supported by high single-digit volume growth.
GCPI aims to have women account for 50% of the facility's workforce, while also creating opportunities for persons with disabilities. According to CNBC TV18, this initiative aligns with the company's commitment to inclusive employment practices and local capability development in the Indonesian market. The company expects the standalone business to deliver revenue growth in the teens and high-single-digit underlying volume growth, despite an estimated impact of approximately 100–150 basis points from trade inventory correction.
GCPL shares settled at ₹872.50 on the National Stock Exchange on Tuesday, gaining 4.24% following the facility inauguration announcement. According to The Economic Times, from the beginning of the year, GCPL shares have declined 30%, while over a month's time, the stock has advanced 1% and for a six-month period, it has fallen 13%. As of October 6, 2026, Godrej Consumer Products has a total market capitalisation of ₹89,283.36 crore. The company expects to post high teens consolidated revenue growth in Q2 FY27, driven by healthy demand across markets, despite intensified inflationary pressures across several commodity-linked inputs.
