
Shares of Genus Power and Infrastructure Ltd. tanked 12% to ₹299.4 on Tuesday, with the stock hitting a 5.98% decline at closing amid significant volumes on the National Stock Exchange. According to Moneycontrol, a combined 65 million equity shares representing 21% of total equity changed hands on the NSE (35.64 million) and BSE (29.24 million) during Tuesday's session. The transaction was executed at an average price of ₹285.8 per share, resulting in a total transaction value of ₹267.5 crore. However, the identities of both buyers and sellers in the transaction remain undisclosed.
As per Moneycontrol, Chiswick Investment, an affiliate of GIC Group, sold a little over 11% stake in Genus Power for ₹955.6 crore through open market transactions. The divestment involved 3.35 crore equity shares sold across three transactions: 89.28 lakh shares at ₹282.15 per share, 1.42 crore shares at ₹282.58 per share, and 1.03 crore shares at ₹290 per share. According to the latest data from Business Standard, Chiswick Investment PTE held a 15.11% stake or 45.97 million equity shares in Genus Power at the end of the March 2026 quarter. This represents a significant change from GIC's initial investment of ₹519 crore via preferential allotment of warrants in July 2023, which gave it a 15% stake in the company's issued and paid-up share capital.
According to Moneycontrol, portfolio management firm Buoyant Opportunities Strategy and Akash Manek Bhanshali-owned Profitex Shares & Securities each acquired 44.82 lakh shares, representing a 1.47% stake in Genus Power, for about ₹130 crore. Madhuri Madhusudan Kela, wife of ace investor Madhu Kela, bought 13.79 lakh shares or a 0.45% stake for ₹40 crore. Among other buyers, Irage Broking Services acquired 31.89 lakh shares worth ₹91.48 crore at ₹286.83 per share, while D3 Stock Vision bought 15.8 lakh shares worth ₹44.5 crore at ₹281.66 per share. The stock had slipped 16% in the past two days and hit a 52-week low of ₹210.49 on February 4, 2026, before the recent decline.
According to the latest shareholding data, individual retail shareholders hold a 31% stake in Genus Power, with 158,401 small retail shareholders (those with authorized share capital up to ₹2 lakh) collectively owning 16% of the company. Among public shareholders, Vikas Kothari holds a 9.05% stake, while Ajay Upadhyaya and Akash Bhanshali hold 1.31% and 1.19% stakes, respectively. Large retail shareholders with authorized share capital exceeding ₹2 lakh hold 14.97% of the company. The company's promoters maintain a 39.34% stake as of the March quarter.
In July 2023, Genus Power had signed a definitive agreement with Gem View Investment, another affiliate of GIC Singapore, to set up a platform for undertaking Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP) concessions with an initial capital outlay of $2 billion. The company remains India's leading provider of end-to-end smart energy measurement solutions for electricity, gas, and water, being the country's largest manufacturer of smart meters for the power sector. Management expects FY27 revenue of approximately ₹6,000-6,500 crore, driven by increasing rollout intensity across existing projects and continued conversion of the large executable order book into revenues.
