According to reports from Reuters, The Economic Times, Business Standard, and Moneycontrol, Flipkart has partnered with Netflix to offer Plus members a free monthly Netflix Mobile Plan. Starting August 1, eligible shoppers can unlock the reward after completing four qualifying orders of ₹299 or more within the same calendar month. The collaboration marks Netflix's first-ever e-commerce partnership in India, representing a significant shift in how streaming services approach customer acquisition and retention. Under the programme, qualifying purchases can be made across Flipkart, Flipkart Grocery, and Flipkart Minutes. Once customers complete the fourth eligible order, they unlock a Netflix Mobile Plan valid for 30 days through the Flipkart app without any additional payment. The activation takes place directly within the Flipkart app and does not require an additional payment.
As reported by Reuters, The Economic Times, Business Standard, and Moneycontrol, the reward requires specific spending criteria to be met every calendar month. Flipkart Plus members must complete four eligible orders of ₹299 or more in a calendar month across Flipkart, Flipkart Grocery, and Flipkart Minutes. This means members will need to place orders worth at least ₹1,196 in a month to unlock the benefit, provided each order meets the minimum value requirement. The benefit is not permanent and must be earned again each month by repeating the same shopping pattern. Non-Plus members can still qualify after completing 15 orders within 12 months without paying any membership fee, becoming eligible for the loyalty programme at no extra cost. Users who qualify will be able to watch Netflix's catalogue of Indian and international films and series through the Mobile Plan. The Netflix access is not an additional subscription and subscribers will be required to complete the milestones as per the customer requirements.
According to Reuters, The Economic Times, Business Standard, and Moneycontrol, the partnership comes as India's e-commerce market is projected to grow from $120-140 billion today to $280-300 billion by 2030, according to Boston Consulting Group. The online shopper base, at 300 million in 2025, is expected to reach 440 million by 2030, driven by growing participation from rural consumers, women and young shoppers. Flipkart Plus members already shop four times more than the average Flipkart customer, as reported by Business Standard. Flipkart, which Walmart bought a controlling stake in 2018, has expanded into grocery and rapid deliveries through Flipkart Minutes, competing with Amazon in e-commerce and rivals including Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart and BigBasket in quick commerce. The company has also shifted its holding company to India from Singapore earlier this year, paving the way for a planned stock market listing in the country. Reuters reported in March that the company was aiming to list in Mumbai before March 2027, though it had yet to firm up the IPO's size or valuation.
As reported by Moneycontrol, Ravi Iyer, CFO and SVP, Strategic Partnerships at Flipkart, stated that the initiative rewards customers' existing shopping behaviour with entertainment benefits. Laurent Uguen, Vice President, APAC Partnerships - Business Development at Netflix, emphasized that the collaboration marks Netflix's first e-commerce partnership in India and is aimed at making the streaming service more accessible through everyday shopping. The partnership signals a broader shift in customer loyalty strategies, moving beyond reward points and shopping discounts toward digital subscriptions and premium experiences. For Flipkart, the collaboration could encourage more frequent shopping across its ecosystem, including grocery and quick commerce. For Netflix, it opens access to subscribers through everyday retail behavior rather than traditional subscription channels. The companies emphasized that this marks Netflix's first e-commerce partnership in India, representing the first time the streaming service can be earned through everyday shopping instead of being purchased separately or bundled with another service.
