India's electric two-wheeler market has achieved a historic milestone by crossing 1 million registrations in just six months of 2026, reaching 10,05,279 units by July 6, according to Autocar India Vahan data. This unprecedented pace represents a 54% year-over-year growth compared to 6,54,592 units registered in the same period last year, translating to approximately 5,375 electric scooters and bikes every single day. The market is currently 192,567 vehicles away from matching last year's full-year performance of 13.4 lakh units, with five months remaining in the year to achieve this target.
Monthly sales have maintained exceptional momentum with June 2026 recording approximately 1.94 lakh units, representing a 75% year-over-year increase and marking the second-best month of 2026 after July's 184,018 registrations. At this pace, leading electric two-wheeler companies project they could nearly double their registrations by year-end, potentially hitting 2 million total sales for the first time. The CEO of a leading e2W company noted that while demand is growing, vehicle production remains constrained by limited capacity at assembly plants and component suppliers.
TVS Motors has emerged as the standout performer, leading 2026 with 2,60,938 registrations and approximately 26% market share up to July 6, according to Autocar India data. The company's iQube family delivered around 47,000 registrations in June alone, with the iQube family contributing roughly 43,000 units for the month. This represents a staggering growth of 73% over its last year's registrations during the same period, with the company having nearly matched its entire 2025 performance of 315,115 e2Ws.
Ather Energy has secured the third position with 1,74,677 units registered in the seven months of 2026, capturing a 17% market share and maintaining its position as the standout among new-age players. Bajaj Auto follows closely with 2,25,960 vehicles registered, approaching its 2025 full-year total of 279,688 vehicles. Hero MotoCorp's Vida brand crossed the 1-lakh mark for the year by early July, with approximately 22,000 units in June alone, while Ola Electric continues to decline with 68,148 units and about 7% share, representing a steep fall from its earlier market leadership position.
The top 10 manufacturers now control 93% of the market, with the top three players - TVS Motors, Bajaj Auto, and Ather Energy - demonstrating clear consolidation trends. Electric two-wheelers now account for over 8% of all two-wheelers sold in India, up from about 6% across 2025. The PM E-Drive demand incentive, offering ₹2,500 per kWh of battery capacity, capped at ₹5,000 per vehicle, is set to lapse on 31 July 2026, creating an urgent pre-deadline rush among buyers. Despite growing demand, vehicle production remains constrained by limited capacity at assembly plants and component suppliers, leading firms to urgently expand their manufacturing capabilities to meet the accelerating market demand.
