Engineers India Limited (EIL) shares surged over 4% to their 52-week high of ₹301.90 during Tuesday's intraday trading after announcing a major contract win. The company has secured a $450 million deal with Dangote Group for a 700,000 BPD Greenfield Refinery and Petrochemical Plant in Kenya. According to the latest exchange filing, Dangote Group has contracted EIL as Project Management Consultant (PMC) and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) services consultant for this state-of-the-art facility. This marks a significant milestone as the two entities have previously worked together on Dangote's expansion from 650,000 BPD to 1.4 million barrels per day at Lekki Free Zone. The project will be critical in strengthening fuel production within East Africa, reducing reliance on imports, supporting regional energy security, and further playing a critical role by supplying petroleum products to the global market, as stated by EIL. Work on the refinery is set to start by the end of September 2026, with the project costing $16 billion to complete. As per The Times of India, Aliko Dangote, Africa's richest person, has hired the engineers that built his Lagos refinery to work on the new crude processing plant in Kenya. The Kenya plant will expand Dangote's presence from the Atlantic coast to the Indian Ocean and into the global energy market.
Engineers India Limited (EIL) shares climbed over 7% on Monday, September 21, touching a 52-week high of ₹289.65, with the stock gaining over 40% so far in 2026. The rally comes after the Navratna public sector engineering consultancy reported exceptional FY26 results, with revenue from operations reaching a record ₹3,849 crore and standalone net profit rising to an all-time high of ₹638 crore, representing a 36.9% increase from the previous year. The company demonstrated strong operational efficiency with operating margin improving to 16.22% in FY26 from 14.76% a year earlier, while EBITDA margin increased to 21.61% from 20.60%. Earnings per share reached a record ₹11.36, up from ₹8.28 in the previous year, while consolidated profit stood at ₹691 crore with a 19% growth. The company's order book stood at ₹15,109 crore at the end of FY26, with order inflow during the year at ₹7,978 crore, which has since expanded to ₹17,000 crore as of June 30, 2026, representing an approximately 17.86% increase from the previous quarter.
EIL's strategic pivot toward international consultancy contracts has gained significant momentum with active discussions for onshore projects in Saudi Arabia and the UAE to diversify geographic exposure and enhance high-margin consultancy segment share. The company has been directed by the Petroleum Ministry to prepare a detailed feasibility report for the proposed ₹40,000 crore undersea pipeline connecting Oman to Gujarat to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, positioning EIL at the forefront of technically complex marine infrastructure developments. This strategic involvement in bypass infrastructure corridors provides robust mid-to-long term revenue visibility as geopolitical disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz make direct pipeline connections structurally essential. The expansion into the Middle East is a timely play to tap into multi-billion dollar alternative routing infrastructure budgets, with consultancy margins traditionally tracking between 20% and 25%, offering far higher profitability and lower risk than lump-sum turnkey EPC projects. The company expects activity from key West Asian customers, including Saudi Aramco and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), to improve as infrastructure projects resume, with the opportunity pipeline including projects across pipelines, terminals and energy infrastructure.
EIL's 61st Annual General Meeting on September 18, 2026, conducted through video conferencing, passed all eight resolutions with overwhelming shareholder support. The ordinary resolution to adopt audited standalone and consolidated financial statements for FY26 received 98.58% approval, while the final dividend for FY26 was approved with near-unanimous support at 99.99%. The board was authorized to fix the remuneration of statutory auditors for FY27 with 99.59% approval. Atul Gupta was appointed as Chairman & Managing Director with 95.38% vote support, while Smt. Kahuli Sema and Shri Ashish Kumar Gupta were appointed as independent directors via special resolutions. Promoter and promoter group entities held 288,458,584 shares, representing approximately 51% of total equity, with 147 members representing 28,86,07,539 shares participating in the meeting. 100% of promoter-held shares voted in favor of every resolution, indicating complete alignment between the controlling stake and board proposals.
For the first quarter of FY27, EIL's standalone turnover stood at ₹800.9 crore, down 6.6% from ₹857.1 crore in the year-ago quarter, while consolidated revenue declined 5.8% year-on-year to ₹819.8 crore. However, profitability improved sharply with consolidated net profit rising 141% year-on-year to ₹157.9 crore from ₹65.4 crore. The company's standalone order book as of June 30, 2026, stood at ₹14,424 crore, comprising ₹10,498 crore in consultancy and ₹3,926 crore in turnkey segments. The revenue mix was tilted towards consultancy during the quarter, while the EPC business saw a temporary decline as some projects approached completion. EIL typically has a revenue mix of around 55% consultancy and 45% EPC, and Chairman and Managing Director Atul Gupta expects this mix to normalise in the coming quarters as EPC execution picks up. The company has already secured ₹3,565 crore of orders in FY27, comprising ₹2,492 crore from domestic projects and ₹1,073 crore from international business.
EIL's international business was temporarily affected by geopolitical tensions in West Asia, although the company secured around ₹500 crore of orders from the region in the April-June quarter. However, foreign order inflow reached a record ₹4,929 crore in FY26, signaling a strategic shift toward higher-value overseas contracts. The company is targeting 10% revenue growth in FY27 while aiming to maintain operating margins in the 14-16% range. Chairman and Managing Director Atul Gupta has indicated that order inflows could accelerate through the remaining quarters of FY27, with the first quarter typically being a weaker period for order bookings. EIL is seeking to diversify beyond its traditional oil and gas business, with a focus on sectors including metals, nuclear energy, infrastructure, data centres, fertilisers and maritime projects. The company expects its healthy order book and execution pipeline to support growth through FY27, while maintaining EBITDA margins as the contribution from its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) business improves. Additionally, EIL shares have been in focus along with other EPC companies as the US government is reportedly planning to invest $5 billion in a fund to help rebuild energy infrastructure in the Middle East damaged during the Iran war, with the proposal potentially creating a $10 billion fund if matched by eight Middle Eastern countries.
